Leaked foldable Motorola Razr specs point to a midrange device

It’s not news that Motorola is working on a foldable smartphone. Recent developments have suggested that the Lenovo-owned company is lining up a Razr-like foldable handset with a summer 2019 release date in mind.

But it’s only now that we are getting an early look at what could be the possible specs of the foldable phone (let’s just call it Motorola Razr, although the real name is unknown at this point in time). Going by this latest leak, the foldable Razr phone might not be the flagship device that many are probably expecting from Motorola.

Details uncovered by the XDA Developers point to a tall 6.2-inch screen that can fold in half. This panel is paired to a small secondary display with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, but the exact size is unknown. The bigger panel reportedly has a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels and an aspect ratio of 22:9.

A ridiculously small battery capacity of 2730mAh has been mooted and even more interesting is that it’s possible the device will feature the weaker Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset in place of the premium Snapdragon 855 that powers the Samsung Galaxy Fold, for instance.

Perhaps the weaker processor is one reason the Moto Razr is said to cost about $1500 when it arrives. This amount will earn you 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, with the 6/128GB variant expected to attract a steeper price tag.

It’s also likely that the Moto Razr will get at least one rear-mounted camera and a fingerprint scanner on the back as well, but for now, we can’t give any assurances. Of course, Android 9 Pie will run the show out of the box.

When it arrives, the Moto Razr will be a Verizon exclusive in the U.S. Interested buyers will have the choices of White, Black and Gold finishes to pick from. Being a relatively new technology in the market, the device will reportedly get only 200,000 units.
