With iOS 26 Developer Beta 1, Apple adds a thoughtful tweak under AirPlay & Continuity. Now, users can choose to Keep Audio in Headphones, even when other devices like car systems or external speakers try to take over.

Located in Settings > AirPlay & Continuity, this new toggle ensures that when you're using AirPods or any connected headphones, your iPhone won’t reroute audio to nearby AirPlay-enabled speakers or your car.
It’s ideal for those who prefer uninterrupted listening—like Reddit user u/ParkerPuff who noted it’s great for not having music hijacked by the car’s system. Another user, u/xdrkrix, welcomed it as something they’ve long wished for.
This is one of those small features that fixes a very real annoyance—especially when switching between private and shared audio environments. A welcome quality-of-life addition!
