Huawei Honor 10: All you need to know, including availability details

By now you probably already know that Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei. Typically, Honor always tries to emulate the mother company with its smartphone releases by rocking the same hardware specs, features, and even the design in some cases, but at prices much lower than the flagships from Huawei.

For instance, the outgoing Honor 9 follows in the footsteps of Huawei P10. We recently saw a cheaper version of the Huawei Mate 10 – the Honor View 10 and in a similar fashion, the incoming Honor 10 is based on the Huawei P20, which came out towards the end of March.

Honor 10 specs and features

Like the Huawei P20, Honor 10 ships with a body that changes appearance depending on the angle of view. Accompanying this Bluish-pink variant are Black and Teal color variants. The rear panel is made of glass and to join the two pieces together is an aluminum frame, the result of it all being a thin 7.7mm body that weighs 153 grams.

And then there’s the notched display screen, just like the P20. The LCD display has a 2.5D glass layer on top, but there’s no mention of Gorilla Glass protection, which is likely to be one of the trade-offs when price matters come into the picture.

Honor 10 specs:
  • 5.84-inch FullView LCD FHD+ display
  • Kirin 970 processor
  • 4/6GB RAM and 64/128GB of non-expandable storage
  • Dual 16MP + 24MP main camera
  • 24MP front camera
  • 3400mAh non-removable battery
  • Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1
  • Extras: Bluetooth 4.2, USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, front-mounted ultrasonic scanner, AI camera mode, fast charging technology, etc.

The Honor 10 takes lots of notes from Huawei P20 and in some cases like the presence of a 3.5mm audio jack, it has an upper hand, if you ask us. Even more interesting is the pricing of the phone, at least if what Europe is paying for the phone is any indicator.

Honor 10 price and availability

  • Available in Europe
  • Price starts at €399
  • Expected in other markets soon

Honor 10 started selling in China on April 27th. While we expect the phone to be available in more markets globally, only those in Europe can get one at the moment following the official launch on May 15.

In Europe, the base model of 64GB storage will cost €399 while the high-end 128GB variant will set you back €449. In the UK, only the 128GB variant will be sold priced at a decent £399, half the price of the Huawei P20 Pro in the same market.

With such impressive price tags, it is easy to see why OnePlus is no longer the undisputed king of the premium midrange segment. The company’s latest OnePlus 6 has stepped up the game by including waterproofing, premium-looking glass build, slow-mo videos of up to 480fps, and OIS to the camera, among other stuff, but the price is up by $30 vis-a-vis the OnePlus 5T.

Compared to Huawei P20’s asking price of €650, the Honor 10 is without a doubt a steal, if you can live with the few compromises here and there.

So, is it the Honor 10 or Huawei P20? Let us know in your comments below.
