Things you will need
- A crafting table to access the 3×3 grid
- 1 x Coal/ Charcoal
- 1 x Stick
- 1 x Soul Soil/ Soul Sand
Procedure
To craft Soul Torch, make your way to the crafting table and place all the three ingredients listed above in the crafting grid. Make sure to place the items in the exact order below in the middle column of your crafting grid.
- First Grid Space – Coal/Charcoal
- Middle Grid Space – Stick
- Bottom Grid Space – Soul Soil/ Soul Sand

- 8 x Iron Nuggets
- 1 x Soul Torch
Procedure
Equip all the ingredients in your inventory and make your way to the crafting table. Start by placing the Iron nuggets in a circular order in the grid on the outside while keeping the slot in the middle free. Once you have used up all your 8 iron nuggets, place the Soul Torch right in the middle of the grid. This should give you a Soul Lantern which you can easily place in your inventory now.
You should now have a Soul Lantern in your inventory.
What are Soul Torches used for
Torches are mainly used to light up your in-game structures. You can even place them beside gravity affected blocks as they will block the material from falling below.
- Soul Torches also help repel Piglins which can come in handy if you do not have a gold armor piece equipped.
- You can also use them to keep Piglins out of your house and area in case they keep coming back again and again.
- Soul Torches give off level 10 low light which means that can not be used to melt ice or snow.
Note: Although Soul Torches will repel Piglins they will not affect them if they are placed on the wall.
What are Soul Lanterns used for
Lanterns are decorative items that light up your area. Soul Lanterns, just like their torch counterpart have a light level of 10. This means that you can not melt ice or snow with them.
- When you place a Soul Lantern to the underside of a block, it will appear to be hanging.
- Soul Lanterns will automatically attach to chains.
- Soul Lanterns also repel Piglins.
- A lantern is a permanent source of light while torches will run out after some time. You will be needed to reignite them again using Flint and Steel.
