How to Get Plasma Cutter in Cold War Zombies

If you want to upgrade your Wonder Weapon to its Fire Variant in Black Ops Cold War: Zombies, getting your hands on the Plasma Cutter is essential. But the thing is so notoriously hard to find that one can keep running in circles and never find the damn thing.

Frustratingly enough, it is also the last piece in the short side-quest to get which makes it all the more unnerving when either one can’t find it or it simply doesn’t spawn. These side-quests are all completely secretive and you’re not going to find any in-game tutorials to help you with them, but perhaps you already know that.

Here we go through the requirements and the steps that you need to follow to the T if you want to get the Thermophasic Wonder Weapon Upgrade and incinerate the dead en masse.

Requirements for Plasma Cutter

Before you get started with this side-quest, you have to

Turn on Power
Unlock the Pack-a-Punch

These are easy to do; you only need to follow the markers on the map. Then, you have to get the D.I.E. Wonder Weapon by completing the Megaton Key side-quest. How do I do that, you ask? Follow me:

Kill a big green zombie and the two bombers to pick up a Key Card. Go to the machine in the Weapon’s Lab, insert the Key Card, and pick up the D.I.E remote control.

Take back the remote to spawn, go in through the door, and interact with the hole in the wall on the left.

The zombies will start getting sucked in. When it’s done, interact with the hole again, at which point the door will blast open revealing the D.I.E. Wonder Weapon.

Completing the Easter Egg Steps

This is another requirement, so bear with me. First up, you have to build the Aetherscope for which you have to access the Dark Aether. Once inside, you have to find three parts for the Aetherscope. They are easy to spot thanks to their yellow glow and are always found at the same locations:

Location #1: At the pack-a-punch room next to the armor machine.

Location #2: At the crash site on top of the plane.

Location #1: At spawn, under the staircase.

Since they only spawn one at a time, if you don’t find one, don’t fret. Just head on over to the other locations and come back to recheck.

Now, it’s time to build the Aetherscope at the pack-a-punch room on the table. Once finished, scamper to the Medical Bay and use the Portal to access the Dark Aether. Once inside, go into the room behind, find the Journal at the Computer table and pick it up.

It’s time now to find the three ‘anomalies’ or ghosts.

The first one is right under the room where you found the journal. It will look like an Orb. Interact with it and the ghost will spawn. Hand over the journal.

Go to the control room and find the second anomaly, interact, and hand over the journal.

Go to where you built the Aetherscope to find the third anomaly, and repeat.

Once the ghost has stopped talking and you’re out of the Dark Aether, return to the Medical Bay, interact with the computer, and input the password (important for Plasma Cutter spawning).

Find the Plasma Cutter

Now that the pre-requisites are taken care of, you can be sure that the Plasma Cutter is going to spawn, no matter what. Now all you have to do is to find it. Go to the Pond outside Nacht Der Untoten and use the Portal.

Important: Plasma Cutter won’t spawn if you use any other Portal.

Access the Dark Aether and head towards the Crash Site. Melee the fuse box and pick up the fuse.

Once you have the fuse, dash to the weapons lab and your Plasma Cutter should be waiting for you. Once you interact with the box, you’ll be kicked out of the Dark Aether.

That’s it! Now all you have to do to get your Upgraded D.I.E. Wonder Weapon is to go towards the Pond and interact with the weapon crate.

Although finding the Plasma Cutter involves only a couple of steps, it is the pre-requisites that take up most of the time. Nevertheless, a few side-quests never hurt anybody, except a few dead zombies, but they don’t mind that.
