When can you Obtain Odin’s Spear ‘Gungnir’ in AC Valhalla?
If you were looking to get the weapon Gungnir early on in the game, then we’re sorry to disappoint you, but there’s really not much there that can be done.
For you to be able to even find Odin’s Spear, you would need to have completed the game’s main story. This includes all the story arcs for you to finish in England, unlocking all the provinces there.
Thus, without spoiling any bit of the main campaign for you, this is what you need to know about obtaining Gungnir: It will become available to you only after you’ve picked up a quest called ‘A Brother’s Keeper’.
This happens in the game’s Epilogue stage of the storyline. You can then follow these steps to find this spear.

How to find Gungnir in Valhalla: Spear’s Location and how to get there.
Once you’ve undertaken this mission with Sigurd, you’ll soon be sailing towards Norway, Hordafylke. In Goinnhellir you will find a cave you have to enter.
We suggest that you try and find the spear during this mission, and not once after you’ve completed it. That way, you’ll not have to sail back to this cave again once the quest is completed.
So the way you go about getting the spear is that once you enter through the cave’s main entrance, you have to stay a little bit towards the left. Don’t follow Sigurd towards the right. Break this wall of ice (shown above), to reveal a narrow passageway.
Follow the passage to where it leads, through the gap, and you’ll enter a room where you can see the Spear glittering on a wall in front of you. Run up to it, to interact with it.
A slight disclaimer here for you: To pull out the Odin Spear from the wall, you would need to have all 4 of your Adrenaline skill points unlocked. Towards the end of the game, that’s something that shouldn’t be much of a problem, but you can always reset other skill points and unlock the Adrenaline ones for this, even now.
So pull out the spear and that should trigger a short cutscene in Eivor pulling it out and equipping it. After that, you can complete the quest and return back to your settlement with your new weapon: Gungnir in tow!

Why is Gungnir such a special weapon in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
The Gungnir, like Thor’s Hammer or the sword Excalibur, is a legendary item. In terms of gear, it is of ‘Mythical’ rarity. And, if you take a look at some of the moves you can perform with this weapon, you’ll know that what we were saying is simply true: The Gungnir’s one of the coolest weapons you’ll see in any AC game in the series.
A unique feature of the Gungnir is: “The Spear’s reach is extended by a force field”. This translates into the game well as you’ll see that with the weapon equipped, you’ll be able to hit enemies from a medium-range distance, with large AOE attacks.
Given below are the initial stats of the weapon, along with 3 additional rune slots. You can further improve this by upgrading the weapon from your blacksmith.
- Attack: 97
- Speed: 48
- Stun: 119
- Crit-Pre: 87
- Weight: 14
One important thing to note is that Odin’s Spear Gungnir can be wielded by you in either of your hands. This means you can pair it up with a nice, decent shield for a proper offensive and defensive combo. You can also wield a short-range weapon with it, perhaps a dagger or a sword to really wreak havoc amongst your enemies!
