February 13, 2019: Samsung has released the January Security Patch for Galaxy S6 Edge handset carrying model no. SM-G925F. The software version of the update is G925FXXU6ESA1. The Galaxy S6 Edge is an old phone (released in 2015), so Samsung pushing security updates for this phone is both surprising and impressive.
As the Galaxy S6 Edge is an old phone, the last OS update it is eligible to receive is Android 7.0 Nougat. So no Pie updates for you, sorry!

Having been around since 2015, the Galaxy S6 Edge has no place on Samsung’s Android 9 Pie update plans. The device has since received two major OS upgrades in Android Marshmallow and Nougat, which means the only alternative to getting a piece of Pie is through custom ROMs.
One little problem, though, is that the Galaxy S6 Edge doesn’t enjoy a large developer community, but we still hope that it will still get some love, especially now that there are plenty of Android Pie GSI ROMs.

Usually, OEMs do not provide software update after 18 months for a device or 24 months for flagship devices like the Galaxy S6 Edge. But given the fact has S6 Edge is way older now, over the flagship eligibility period of the update too, it’s obvious from Samsung not to plan the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the device.
At some point, T-Mobile claimed that Samsung was working on Oreo update for the S6 Edge, but the company has since taken down the page that had this info, although we managed to take a screengrab that we’ve shared below.
Despite a lack of any more major OS upgrades, we do expect the usual security patches to roll out as an OTA monthly or bi-monthly.
