Elden Ring Tarnished Pack Price and Release Date on PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox

More than four years after launch, Elden Ring gets a fresh drop of content, landing two ways on the same day. Switch 2 owners get the whole game as a brand-new package, while people who already play on PC and the current consoles get an inexpensive add-on that folds the new classes, cosmetics and weapons into the copy they own. The catch that trips people up is which product you actually buy — and what each one does and doesn’t include.

What launches on August 28 and who buys what

There are two separate products here, not one. The Tarnished Edition is a Switch 2 release that bundles everything, and it is the only way to play Elden Ring on that console. Everywhere else, the new material shows up as the Tarnished Pack, a paid add-on layered onto a game you already own. Both go live on August 28, 2026, but they carry very different prices and very different contents, so the table below lays them side by side before we dig into each one.

Tarnished Edition on Switch 2: the full bundle

The Tarnished Edition is the complete package and Elden Ring’s first-ever appearance on a Nintendo platform. It includes the full February 2022 base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion that arrived in June 2024, and all of the new content built for this release. That expansion is the real value story here — Shadow of the Erdtree is a massive campaign in its own right, and having it bundled in means a Switch 2 buyer is getting the entire Elden Ring experience in one purchase.

It carries a US price of $79.99 (listed at 9,020 yen in Japan) for both the digital and physical versions, and it is the only route onto Switch 2 — there is no separate base-game-only listing on that system. If you want Elden Ring in handheld form, this is the version.

Tarnished Pack on PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox

If you already own Elden Ring on PC via Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, you are not buying the Edition — you buy the Tarnished Pack instead, an add-on priced at $4.99. It simply layers the two new classes, four armor sets, three Torrent skins and the new weapons onto the game you have.

Here is the part people get wrong most often: the Pack does not include Shadow of the Erdtree. That expansion is still a separate purchase on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and buying the Pack changes nothing about whether you own it. The Pack also isn’t a new install or a different version of the game — your existing save files stay compatible, and it works whether or not you already have the expansion. It is an add-on, plain and simple.

Heavy Knight and Idus Knight starting stats

The headline additions are two new starting classes that join the game’s 10 existing base-game classes, and their on-screen character sheets give us real numbers to work with. The two are built for opposite players. The Heavy Knight is the classic tank — it starts at a higher level with big Vigor, Endurance and Strength, and it favors slow, heavy hits, kitted out with weighty armor and a curved greatsword rather than a shield. The Idus Knight comes in leaner and lower-level, leaning on Dexterity for a faster, more mobile melee style with a quicker greatsword.

The gap tells the story. The Heavy Knight’s 17 Endurance and 16 Strength point at a poise-heavy, big-weapon build that can trade blows, while the Idus Knight’s 15 Dexterity at only Level 7 gives you a cleaner, lower-investment start for a nimble Dex character. Both are available to new and returning players alike, so veterans can roll a fresh save straight into either kit.

Armor sets, Torrent skins and new weapons

Beyond the classes, the pack adds four new armor sets, three cosmetic skins for Torrent — the spectral steed that carries you across the Lands Between — and a handful of new weapons and skills themed around the new content. Two of the four armor sets are tied to the new classes, and the other two are meant to be found out in the world during the adventure; one of them is a nod to series history, styled after Lucatiel of Mirrah. The Torrent skins are purely cosmetic and cover the mount’s appearance, adornments and saddle.

FromSoftware has not detailed how you actually get any of this in-game — whether the armor and skins are handed to you on unlock or dropped somewhere you have to go and earn them. Drop rates vary, so treat this as a repeat-farm route once the content is available. A balance update lands alongside the drop. Everything above is set: same date, two products, and a very small price of entry if you already own the game.
