Android Pie update is coming to these Motorola phones

Now that Google has released Android Pie AOSP source code, Android partners are now coming in with details of which devices they will be updating to the new OS. We saw HMD Global recently publish a list of Nokia devices that will receive Android Pie OTA, and joining the party in doing the same is Lenovo-owned Motorola.

The company has taken to its official website to give us details of which devices that will receive Android Pie update and there’s nothing surprising in there. The update will begin with the new Moto Z3 family and later on followed by the Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z2 Play.

Also on the list is the Android One-based Motorola Moto X4, although we also expect the OS to arrive on the non-Android One variant of the phone. Like last year, the Moto G6 series is also on the list, including the Play variant, but its predecessor, the Moto G5 series (including the S variants) is nowhere on the list.

Of course, the recently launched Motorola Moto P30 will also be updated to Android Pie, but we still don’t know if it will be part of the company’s “this fall” expected release date for the OS. Motorola says Pie will improve battery life, split-screen multitasking experience, bring a new navigation and recent apps UI, a colorful Settings menu, redesigned Quick Settings and notifications as well as simplified volume controls, among other things.
