Why Can’t I Change Region On Tiktok?

If you have tried to change your TikTok region recently, you may have noticed that the option has strangely disappeared. No, you are not dreaming, the option was right there, and now isn’t. If you’re wondering where that setting has gone, read on to learn more.

Why can’t I change the region on TikTok?

TikTok Ban Date

A recent update to the TikTok app seems to have gotten rid of the option to choose your region. Since there was no mention of this in the update logs in the Google Play Store, users only noticed it when they manually went to change the setting.

If you’re wondering whether the setting has just been moved to a new menu, you’re not alone. But that does not seem to be the case with this option. TikTok has actually gone ahead and removed the option to set your own region on the app. Whether this means that the app will simply select your region by using your IP address, or geolocation is unclear at this point.

Is there a way to change your location?

Since TikTok itself has removed the option to change your location there is no clarity on how they will continue to tailor your FYP. Until now, it was based largely on your cellular network. So it looks like your FYP will be determined by the geolocation of your network.

It looks like there is no way to change your location on the app at this point. There are tutorials online that explain how you can roll back your TikTok app version using an APK, however that too doesn’t seem to work. And besides, that would prevent you from updating your app ever again. So it looks like we are just going to have to wait and see if TikTok intends to add another way to change your region on the app.

Can I use TikTok despite the ban, then?

If TikTok is banned in your country, then you won’t be able to access TikTok at all. Well, for the most part, because you can still make do with the Chinese TikTok app. But as far as the normal TikTok app goes, as the restrictions are put on the device ID level, even trying to access TikTok using a VPN isn’t possible. So, for example, as TikTok is banned in India, Indians have no access to it.

If it gets banned in the US, the TikTokers in the country won’t be able to use TikTok. Unless of course, Microsoft buys its US business and the ban is thus avoided — the Windows maker plans to take care of all the data that TikTok will have access to in the US, meaning there won’t be any privacy concerns in that regard, thus no need for the ban.

So, if Microsoft buys TikTok’s US business, then you are safe, and you will be able to use TikTok like before as if nothing happened.
