ChatGPT can now take your meeting notes. OpenAI launched the Meetings plugin at DevDay on September 29, 2026, as a beta in the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS on Pro and Business plans. It listens through your Mac rather than sending a bot into the call, then saves a personalized summary with suggested action items. OpenAI says the audio is deleted once the notes are ready. It’s rolling out DevDay features gradually, so Meetings may not be on your account yet.

On Business, both ChatGPT Space and the Meetings plugin need to be switched on for your workspace. Meetings is separate from the older desktop app’s Record feature.
How Meetings takes notes
You install Meetings from Plugins in the app’s sidebar and allow access to your microphone and system audio. The microphone picks up your voice and people speaking near your Mac; system audio picks up sound playing on your Mac, including other participants in an online meeting. You press Take notes, can type your own notes alongside, and stop when you’re done.
Meetings then uses the transcript, your notes and relevant context from connected apps you’ve authorized to add a personalized summary and suggested follow-ups to the same page, alongside your own notes. The follow-ups can be things such as drafting an email or updating a project plan, which you can edit and start with one click. Connecting Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar is optional and adds reminders for upcoming meetings. Meetings can also spot that you’re in a call and offer to take notes.
Meetings stops taking notes on its own when you close the laptop lid, when no audio is detected for an extended period, or when a session reaches four hours. Notes can take a few minutes to appear after you stop.
What happens to the audio and who sees the notes
Meetings streams the audio to OpenAI to create the notes. Once they’re ready, OpenAI says the audio is deleted from both your Mac and its servers and can’t be replayed. If you’re offline or processing is incomplete, the audio may stay on your Mac for a while as it waits to upload or finish processing.
Meeting pages are private by default. If you share one, people see the notes but not the transcript.
Consent is on you
OpenAI tells you to inform everyone and get their consent before you start. The consent reminder shows only on your screen: it doesn’t notify the other participants or ask them on your behalf.
