Verizon Wireless has a new software update rolling out to the Motorola Moto G6 in the U.S. This is the third software update the Big Red is pushing to the G6 since its launch on the carrier in 2018 and it does no more than improve the security of the phone, fix bugs and perform system-wide optimizations.
The update is arriving as version ODSS27.104-95-6, which, as you can see from the build number, is based on Android Oreo, the OS that powers the device out of the box.
The Moto G6 doesn’t receive monthly software updates like other high-end devices from Motorola. Instead, it gets updated after 60 to 90 days, which explains the jump from January to March 2019 security patches for Verizon users.
At a time when Moto G6 users in countries like Brazil and India have already received updates to Android 9 Pie, Verizon users are for sure dying to get hands-on with the OS. But by the look of things, the wait is still on and we don’t know until when.
Interestingly, the official Motorola U.S. software page published the release notes for Moto G6 Pie update over a month ago, so, yea, it shouldn’t be long before the update arrives.
If you want Pie on a Moto G device that bad, you might as well grab the newer Moto G7 or Moto G7 Power that come preinstalled with the new OS out of the box alongside a guaranteed update to Android Q.
