And here’s another LG smartphone that’s receiving a new software update today. The unlocked variant of the LG G5, model number RS988, is getting the update over the air.

The update build is 21d, and it is basically a security update similar to the one the LG K8 received earlier. After installing this update, your phone should be safe from the Blueborne and KRACK Wi-Fi exploits. The December Android security patch is also included in the update.

The LG G5 was launched in April 2016 and featured a semi-modular design. However, the reception wasn’t as great as LG had hoped it would be. It did feature high-end specs and a pretty decent dual-camera setup, but that didn’t help much. The phone may or may not get the Android 8.0 Oreo update later this year, it is not confirmed yet.

In recent news, we learned that LG is planning on rebranding the G series smartphone line-up with the next flagship device. We’re not sure what it would be called, but the company will reveal the device at Mobile World Congress next month.
