The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen (WiFi and LTE models) which released earlier in 2016 have finally received official builds of TWRP recovery.
For the unknown, TWRP recovery let’s you root your device either by flashing the SuperSU zip by Chainfire OR by installing Magisk systemless interface coupled with phh’s root so that you can play Pokemon Go and use Android Pay while rooted.
With TWRP recovery installed, you can also install/flash custom ROMs, MODs and other such stuffs.

How to Install TWRP and Root Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016)
- Download & save the TWRP recovery .tar file (for your Galaxy Tab A 10.1 variant) from the link above to your PC.
- Install TWRP recovery using Odin on your PC.
- Boot into TWRP recovery and take a full nandroid backup of your device using TWRP’s Backup option.
