What to know
- Windhawk’s “Taskbar auto-hide when maximized” mod lets you hide the taskbar only when a window is maximized or intersects the taskbar.
- The mod improves upon the default “Automatically hide the taskbar” behavior on Windows so that it’s hidden only when you’re in full screen, or a window is touching the taskbar.
- For the mod to work, you’ll need to enable “Automatically hide the taskbar” from Taskbar behaviors as well.
Windhawk is taking the Windows community by storm. It has tons of mods that provide elegant solutions to common Windows UI issues. And now, there’s a new Windhawk mod for auto-hiding the taskbar, but only when your active window is maximized or intersects the taskbar.
Called, simply, Taskbar auto-hide when maximized, this mod significantly improves upon Windows auto-hide taskbar feature.
On Windows, when you enable “Automatically hide the taskbar”, your taskbar goes into hiding unless you hover your mouse at the bottom of the screen. But this behavior isn’t so well thought out. If you need to check the time, for instance, you have to move your mouse to the bottom. So, even though Windows taskbar auto-hide feature works, it is not designed intelligently. This is where the Windhawk feature comes in super handy.
Once installed, you can choose between two modes:
- Auto-hide when a window is maximized or intersects the taskbar
- Auto-hide only when a window is maximized.
Note: You will need to enable “Automatically hide the taskbar” feature from Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors.
Thanks to the Windhawk mod, your taskbar hides only when your window is in full-screen. Every other time, it remains in view so you can interact with it as usual.
