The Hollow Second-Floor Puzzle Guide: Room Location, Beam Source, and Bat Alignment

The second-floor puzzle in The Hollow is a pillar-alignment challenge inside a circular room. The colored pillars are covered in glowing runes and animal symbols, with bat and ghost icons also decorating them.

The puzzle’s goal is to join the lightning beams by adjusting the pillars’ orientation. This guide covers reaching the room, finding the rotation interaction, and lining up the symbols.

How to solve the second-floor puzzle in The Hollow

Reach the pillar room

Climb the wooden stairs to the second floor, then follow the hallway into the circular room containing the colored pillars.

Identify the beam-emitting symbol

Examine the icons on the pillars and look for the one sending a lightning beam across the floor: the bat symbol. Find the Rotate Pillar interaction prompt on a pillar to turn it.

Turn every bat toward the center

Rotate each colored pillar until its bat icon faces inward, toward the room’s center. The wall displays your remaining turns while you work. Interact with the yellow pillar to rotate it, then approach and rotate orange, red, and purple in that order. Examine the blue and green pillars, then return to purple and rotate it until its bat faces inward. Finish adjusting orange until its bat icon lights up and connects.

Once every bat faces inward, the lightning beams connect between the pillars. Dialogue appears on screen with the connected beams.
