For pure Pal damage the standout picks are Solenne (Neutral), Neptilius (Water), Dandelord (Grass), Knocklem Ignis (Fire), Orserk (Electric), Hydrolon (Dark), Knocklem (Ground), Frostallion (Ice) and Hydrolon (Dragon), with Orserk as the strongest overall Pal-damage engine.
Palworld’s 1.0 update reshuffled the whole roster, so “strongest by type” is no longer just a base-stat contest. This is a combat-strength roundup — the Pal you actually want fighting for each element — with big utility called out where it changes a Pal’s value. Because so many winners are role-dependent, most types get a clear top pick plus the serious alternatives worth building around.

How these 1.0 combat rankings are built

For raw offense the assumed passive loadout is Demon God, Muscle Head, Ferocious and Serenity — the pure-damage stack. Swap one for Vampiric if you want life sustain or an immortality effect. The bigger story in 1.0, though, is status synergy: applying burn, poison, blind, soak or electrify and then stacking a Pal that amplifies damage against that status routinely beats a higher raw attack number, which is why several “weaker” Pals win their type.
Strongest Pal by type at a glance
| Type | Best pick | Best alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Neutral | Solenne | Paladius (with Necromus), Jormuntide |
| Water | Neptilius | Relaxaurus, Penking, Ophydia + Jormuntide |
| Grass | Dandelord | Lyleen Noct, Sylvans, Ophydia |
| Fire | Hydrolon Ignis | Knocklem Ignis, Jormuntide Ignis, Renjishi |
| Electric | Orserk | Azurobe |
| Dark | Hydrolon | Bellanoir Libero, Frostallion Noct, Celestia Noct, Xenolord |
| Ground | Knocklem | Anubis, Segment (base) |
| Ice | Frostallion | Bastigor |
| Dragon | Hydrolon | Jetragon, Xenolord, Orserk |
Use this as your scan sheet, then drop into the sections below for the stat lines, exclusive skills and the synergies that decide the close calls.
Neutral: Solenne for player-damage builds

Neutral has a genuine three-way argument, but the most useful Pal is Solenne. It is weaker on paper than its rivals, yet its Untainted Maiden partner skill boosts the player’s attack by up to 80% when every Pal in your party is a different species. That condition is generous — you can still run both Gobfin and Gobfin Ignis for extra stacking, pushing player damage toward 120% — and with 1.0’s strong new weapons, that makes Solenne a fit for a huge range of team builds.
If you want the neutral slot to hit rather than buff, Jormuntide has the highest neutral attack (around 4,000) plus a stacked kit — Purifying Light at 1,250 attack power over a big area, Sacred Rain, Holy Burst and Divine Wing — and doubles as a dark type with high handiwork on the base. Paladius is the mount answer: one of the fastest ground mounts with a triple jump, and pairing it with Necromus makes each one’s signature spear skill auto-trigger the other, a clean neutral-plus-dark core.
Water: Neptilius leads a deep pool

Water is one of the deepest types in 1.0, and Neptilius is the raw-power pick: the fastest water mount, the highest attack stat of any water Pal, a natural Thunderstorm, and a wide-area sonic laser. If you just want the water slot to do damage, this is it.
From there it splits by role. Relaxaurus rides as a flying mount and gains +8% attack for every dragon in your party, so it scales hard inside an all-dragon team. Penking is the base defender — roughly 20k health, ~3,777 attack, and it flies around your base sniping intruders with Aqua Tornado and Grand Breach. Azurobe (around 4,500 attack) turns your attacks water-type and punishes electrified targets with bonus water damage.
The best support play is Ophydia + Jormuntide: Ophydia’s skill inflicts Soak 6, Jormuntide adds +65% damage to soaked targets, and soak also makes them take double electric damage, so the pair bridges straight into an electric team. One naming note: the top water slot is a little muddy in some 1.0 talk because a defensive mount keeps getting grouped in here — for a full-dragon party a durable water mount like Shell Long rounds things out, but for the type itself, Neptilius is the answer.
Grass: Dandelord out-hits the support crowd
Grass leans support as usual, but Dandelord breaks the mold with the highest grass attack in the game (4,203) and a skill that makes your attacks apply poison. Poison is the payoff: bring Prixter for a +65% overall damage increase, or Kemmy to cut damage taken by 80% — both dark types that turn Dandelord into a real engine. Its own kit (Toxic Dance’s lingering mist, Poison Promenade, Wind Burst) makes it a strong base Pal too.
The alternatives cover the jobs Dandelord doesn’t. Lyleen Noct offers strong healing sustain. Sylvans (~3,777 attack) is the combo piece: when you hit a target that’s ivy-covered, it explodes for 60% of the damage in an area — apply the status with Needle Noct, add a +65% damage boost against ivy-covered targets, and finish with a fire attacker for double damage. Ophydia stays relevant here as the soak support. Poison has no element of its own, so it stacks with burn and everything else — a neat handoff into fire.
Fire: Hydrolon Ignis and Knocklem Ignis

Fire has two co-leaders. Hydrolon Ignis (~4,060 attack) boosts its own attack by 6% for every dragon and fire type in the party, so it thrives as the dedicated attacker in a full-dragon lineup, and it’s a flying dragon-type mount for coverage. The buff applies to base stats only, so it doesn’t compound multiplicatively, and same-type attack bonus is a modest 20% in 1.0 — good to know, not disqualifying.
Knocklem Ignis wins on ceiling: its stats look plain until Steel Guardian Mode fires, adding +210% attack and +210% defense for the highest effective stats on any fire Pal. For status play, Renjishi (~3,777 attack) makes your attacks inflict burn, and Jormuntide Ignis (~4,060) raises your attack power by 65% against burning targets — and that boost also applies to your Pals. A team of Renjishi to apply burn, Jormuntide Ignis to amplify, and Knocklem Ignis to deal it covers the whole loop.
Electric: Orserk’s stacking rewrites the type
Orserk got the biggest glow-up of 1.0 and runs away with electric. Its Ferocious Thunder Dragon skill adds 5% attack (and defense) per shot to the active Pal, stacking up to 30 times for a +150% swing. Pair it with a fast-firing weapon — the drone launcher or combat SMG — and you hit the cap almost instantly. It brings its own Polycarneros, can learn Meteor Rain, is the best electricity generator in slot, and comfortably outclasses the old go-to Astegon. It’s now a World Tree Pal, so you’ll farm the endgame region for it.
Around it, electric has rich support. Beakon and Helzephyr Lux gain +25% movement per electric type in the party and convert your attacks to electric; Prickle Lex pushes that conversion further at +50%. Layer Ophydia/Jormuntide soak to double the electric damage, or Snot to apply Electrify 6 (double water damage plus paralysis) with Slow Wot adding a 60% explosion. Azurobe is the solid backup with Bolt Flake and Flash Charge, but for pure damage nothing touches Orserk.
Dark: the deepest and most contested type

Dark is the most stacked type in the game, and the top pick is a close call. The nod goes to Hydrolon — nominally a dragon, but most of its exclusive attacks are dark (Apocalypse, plus learnable Dark Laser Spear, Dark Cannon), and it gets boosted for every dark type in your party, so a full-dark team makes it terrifying.
The bench is genuinely absurd. Bellanoir and Bellanoir Libero pack a ridiculous attack stat and the top-tier Nightmare Bloom ability — Libero is the slightly stronger pick. Frostallion Noct converts your attacks to dark for +40% and applies Blind 6 while mounted, which frees up a party slot; feed that blind into Rouger for +65% damage to blinded targets. Stack dark boosts with Helzephyr (+30%) and Demon Eye (+30%) for a 60% total. Celestia Noct is the wild card: it makes your active Pal take continual damage but grants an +80% attack increase, so hand your carry an immortality passive (5% life steal, auto-regen, +15% attack) and let it one-shot through the drain. And if you just need a mount, Xenolord has the highest stamina despite a weak partner skill.
Ground: Knocklem’s Guardian mode tops Anubis
The true strongest ground combat Pal is Knocklem, for the same reason its fire variant wins — Guardian Mode throws a +200% boost onto its attack and defense, giving it the highest effective ground stats. It also brings the exclusive Ground Cutter and learns a deep bench of ground moves.
Anubis remains the classic high-attack option with three excellent exclusives — Sand Twister (a multi-hit that’s the best pick against bosses), Ground Smash and Forceful Charge, plus Spinning Roundabout. For the base rather than the battlefield, Segment earns a mention: an alpha Segment raises work efficiency by 400% at a workbench or workshop, comes with two ground-type exclusives, and boosts Anubis’s work speed on the side.
Ice: Frostallion and Bastigor split the job

Ice comes down to two. Frostallion converts your attacks to ice, inflicts Freeze 6 and adds +40% attack while mounted, making it the game’s best dragon counter — and its exclusive Crystal Wing, alongside Double Blizzard Spike, hits hard.
Bastigor (Ice-type, No. 191, found in the World Tree) has the same defense with slightly less attack and the exclusive Glacial Impact — but its edge is versatility. It’s best-in-slot for cooling, mining and lumbering all at once, so it’s the ice Pal that also carries your base while Frostallion only handles the cold. Freeze isn’t as strong a status as soak, burn or electrify, but for shutting down dragons either of these does the job.
Dragon: the crowded top end
Dragon has no single flat answer — it’s a top-tier free-for-all. Hydrolon takes it for me because it has the best scaling when you build around it: with dragon and dark types in the party it gets better attack and overall movement speed, and you can carry any weapon on its back (pair Vanwyrm to apply blind while flying). Jetragon is right there with higher base movement speed and base stats plus its Beam Comet rockets; kit it with movement passives like Dimensional Leap, Swift and Runner and its top speed edges Hydrolon out.
Xenolord owns the player-damage niche — more stamina than Jetragon, a +50% boost to weapon-wielding Pals’ partner skills, and +35% energy-weapon damage that covers laser swords and endgame guns. From a pure stat-boosting view, Orserk is arguably the best dragon of all, since its stacking skill pumps every other Pal in the party by up to 150%. Silvegis anchors defensive teams by cutting shield damage taken by 80%. There’s also a strong dragon/dark bruiser — fast, high-stamina, immune to stun and resistant to explosive damage — that’s still floating around under an unsettled name, but the type is easy to build for because dark and dragon are simply the two deepest pools of Pals in the game.
Team synergies that move the rankings
| Status | Best partners | Payoff |
|---|---|---|
| Burn | Renjishi + Jormuntide Ignis | +65% damage to burning targets (Pals included) |
| Poison | Dandelord + Prixter / Kemmy | +65% damage, or −80% damage taken |
| Blind | Frostallion Noct / Vanwyrm + Rouger | +65% damage to blinded targets |
| Soak | Ophydia + Jormuntide | +65% damage and double electric damage |
| Electrify | Snot + electric/water attacker | Double water damage plus paralysis |
| Ivy-covered | Needle Noct + Sylvans + Chillet Ignis | 60% explosion and doubled fire damage |
| Freeze | Frostallion | Locks down and counters dragons |
Build the party around one status engine, not around one big attacker — lock in a Pal that applies burn, poison, blind, soak or electrify on demand, then add its amplifier (Renjishi + Jormuntide Ignis for burn, Ophydia + Jormuntide for soak) and let a mid-stat carry out-damage a higher-attack Pal that fights alone.
