The latest and greatest flagship device from Sony, Xperia Z5, has now partially begun to roll out in several parts of the world. The device is, as always, a piece of craftsmanship from Sony, more so with the fingerprint sensor built right into the power button. Just brilliant.

Xperia Z5 is definitely a phone to get if you’re looking for performance and aesthetics. But of course, we look for things like root access as well nowadays before purchasing an Android phone.

Sony Xperia devices have always been nice when it comes to root, and Xperia Z5 is no different as it’s bootloader unlockable, so the device will definitely get root access.

However, the current known methods for rooting Xperia devices won’t work on the Z5. And we are not sure, if developers will find a workaround for that. But unlocking the bootloader and installing custom recovery afterwards, will definitely get you root on Xperia Z5, thanks to SuperSU zip by Chainfire which you can flash using a custom recovery.

Although Xperia Z5 bootloader is directly unlockable from Sony and you could even do it right out of the box, but you’ll still have to wait for a working TWRP recovery for Xperia Z5. Until TWRP or any other custom recovery is available, you won’t be able to flash SuperSU to root your Xperia Z5.

There will be other options to root xperia Z5 as well, like a batch script that will exploit your Z5 for root, or a custom kernel or pre-rooted ROM. While the later two will require unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, the root exploit batch script will be able to root your Z5 without unlocking the bootloader, which will keep the warranty safe even after root.

We’ll be sure to update this page as and when Xperia Z5 will get root access either via a root exploit, SuperSU zip, custom kernel or a pre-rooted ROM. Stay tuned with us..

  5. As this article comes very high in the google search results, please be aware, that unlocking bootloader WIPES TA partition that is used to store Sony’s DRM keys – once wiped they’re lost forever.
