Sony just announced their ‘Sony Concept for Android‘ program, which, right now is essentially a tool for quickly getting the beta version build of Xperia X Nougat update. Sony already had the Nougat update out for X Performance under the ‘Xperia beta program’, which is another one of company’s Nougat beta initiative. Why? Well, no idea.

Anyway, it seems that if you own a Xperia X, you can get the test build of Android 7.0 update within 24 hours of right now. Just head over to download Sony Concept Installer app from play store, and then tap on ‘Get started’, and then ‘REGISTER’.

That will enroll your device into Concept program, and now Sony will be sending the Nougat update as an OTA within 24 hours.

Note: Installing the Nougat OTA will wipe your device, so be sure to take appropriate backups. You can use Son’y Xperia Transfer Mobile software to take backup of your data, like SMS, pics, videos, music, etc.

Also, the update is sized around 1GB, so make sure you have WiFi connection, and that much space left on internal storage.

Also note that you need to fill in the exact Google account details when setting up the phone on Nougat, which you had when you accepted the Nougat OTA. SO, keep those details ready.

‘Sony Concept for Android’ supported devices

Only Xperia X (model no. F5121) is supported, Sony explicitly said.

Well, don’t worry, more devices could be added sooner or later as and when Sony things fitting.

We think the likes of Xperia X, Xperia Z5, Xperia X Compact, Xperia Z4, etc. would be supported under the Concept program too, pretty soon, as they are candidates to receive Nougat update from Sony.

Now some competition news: Samsung also started their Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Nougat update beta program recently, while Huawei released the beta version of its own Honor 8 Nougat update in India yesterday. Today, LG G5 Nougat update was also released, making G5 the first device to do so except for Nexus and Android One sets.

Sony Concept program features/benefits

Sony just put up a concise list of features for their Concept for Android program, which is quite different from the Nougat beta program they also have. Here are some points you should know.

  • Frequent software upgrades
  • Always at latest security level
  • Freedom to install/uninstall applications
  • Significantly increased amount of user memory
  • Your voice is heard

So, it’s a ongoing program compared to one-timer Nougat beta program Sony also have.
