What to know

  • Google is developing a dedicated Quick Settings tile for the existing display color filter.
  • The tile would let you control the accessibility feature directly from SystemUI.
  • We found the dormant code in SystemUIGoogle vdp11.261002.005, an unreleased Android beta build.

Google’s broader color filter capability for Pixel displays is already public. What is new here is a dedicated Quick Settings tile that would put the existing accessibility control within easier reach.

Now, a teardown of SystemUIGoogle vdp11.261002.005 from a Pixel 10 Pro Fold shows that Google is preparing a tile labelled “Color filter.” We found the feature in code but could not surface it in the app yet.

About APK teardowns — An APK teardown works by reading the not-yet-shipped code inside a beta build, which lets us preview features a developer is working on before they’re announced. But work-in-progress code can change, stay hidden behind a server-side flag, or be scrapped before it ever reaches your phone.

SystemUI is getting a dedicated Color filter tile

The clearest piece of evidence is a new SystemUI label that names the control simply as “Color filter.” It is paired with an accessibility state reference for the filter being enabled.

Together, these strings point to a Quick Settings control that toggles the existing color or display filter directly from SystemUI. That is the new development in this build: not the underlying filtering capability, but a faster control for reaching and managing it.

The new strings, seen below, point to the tile and its enabled state:

accessibility_color_filter_enabled = “accessibility_color_filter_enabled”
quick_settings_color_filter_label = “Color filter”

The concise label also fits the role of a Quick Settings tile, where controls need to remain easy to identify in a compact grid. For users who rely on the accessibility filter, this could make turning it on or off more immediate than navigating away from the current screen.

The new code is limited to the SystemUI control

The evidence does not introduce another kind of display filter or describe changes to how the existing filter adjusts colors. It specifically adds code for the SystemUI tile and an enabled-state reference.

That distinction matters because the broader Pixel color filter capability is already known. The scoop in SystemUIGoogle vdp11.261002.005 is the dedicated Quick Settings access: a direct control that can sit within Android’s system interface.

The Color filter tile is not available to users yet. We’ll watch future SystemUIGoogle builds for signs of its rollout.
