To burn the Big Ghost in PEAK, lure it to a Belltower in the GLOOM biome and ring the bell with E when the ghost is right beside the tower; it burns up and unlocks the Exorcist Badge.
The Exorcist Badge is a timing check more than a grind: get the large ghost into an active burn source before it collides with you. The Belltower route is the cleanest path because it does not depend on finding a specific item first.
Exorcist Badge requirements in GLOOM
| Requirement | What |
|---|---|
| Biome | Reach GLOOM, where the badge can unlock. |
| Target | Burn the large Big Ghost. |
| Main burn source | Use a stone Belltower and the BELLTOWER [E] RING prompt. |
| Alternate burn sources | Use a lit Candlestick or Faerie Light if you have one. |
Work inside GLOOM, the swamp below the mist after ALPINE. The enemy you need is the large Big Ghost; the small ambient ghosts floating nearby are not the badge target.
How to burn the Big Ghost with a Belltower in PEAK
Use this route once you have found a Belltower in GLOOM; the whole run is about keeping the ghost close enough for the chime.
STEP 1/4
Find a Belltower

Look for a stone Belltower in the GLOOM fog and line up the BELLTOWER [E] RING prompt.
STEP 2/4
Hold your ground near the tower

Stay close to the base and watch for the large Big Ghost to drift toward your position.
STEP 3/4
Ring when the ghost reaches you

Press and hold E only when the Big Ghost is directly beside the tower so the chime fires inside its range.
STEP 4/4
Let the burn finish

The Big Ghost catches in the tower’s flame, disappears, and awards the Exorcist Badge.
Face the Belltower prompt before baiting the ghost; if you lose the E interaction while it approaches, the ring may finish too late.

Candlestick and Faerie Light burn options
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Belltower | Ring with E as the Big Ghost enters the tower’s burn range; no item is required. |
| Candlestick | Found from Luggage in the GLOOM swamp; when lit, it burns for about 30 seconds, suppresses sleep effects, and can burn the Big Ghost. |
| Faerie Light | Obtained from Ancient Idols or Ancient Luggage; its flame radius can burn the Big Ghost and award the badge. |
Key If your route gives you a portable flame before a clean tower setup, use it as the burn source instead of forcing the Belltower pull. The goal stays the same: make the Big Ghost enter an active flame radius before it explodes into you.
For Faerie Light, use the updated route if you skipped it early: let the ghost pass into the flame radius rather than treating the item only as a repel tool. For Candlestick, light it after the ghost cue and use the short active window to either hold your ground or move the flame into the ghost’s path.
Mistakes that block the Exorcist Badge

Do not chase every small ghost you see in GLOOM. The badge is attached to burning the Big Ghost, the large one that closes on you and can explode on contact.
At a Belltower, timing is the usual failure point. Ringing while the ghost is still outside the effect wastes the chime, but waiting until after contact means you get blasted instead of burning it; keep your character close enough to the base that the BELLTOWER [E] RING prompt stays available.
The biome itself can also ruin the attempt. If GLOOM sleep damage is overtaking you, switch to a shorter bait near a tower or use a lit Candlestick before the status pressure snowballs.
Old late-game route assumptions are another easy miss. Build the attempt around the GLOOM biome added with The Final Ascent, not older paths that only planned around Caldera or The Kiln.
Exorcist Badge reward
Burning the Big Ghost grants the Exorcist Badge. In the badge and outfit collection, Exorcist also unlocks the Frog Hat cosmetic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does burning small ghosts count for the Exorcist Badge?
No. The badge requires the large Big Ghost in GLOOM; small ghosts can be ignored for this unlock.
Can you get the Exorcist Badge without a Candlestick?
Yes. A Belltower is enough, and a Faerie Light can also do the job if the Big Ghost enters its flame radius.
