OnePlus surprised many when it revealed that it will update the 2016 pair of OnePlus 3 and 3T to Android 9 Pie. The two, as of this writing, have already received the said update with OxygenOS 9.0 on top, making it their third major OS upgrade.

This move led many to start speculating that OnePlus is following in Google’s footsteps with a three-year Android OS support window. And apparently, it seems this is the company’s new direction thanks to the latest promise of upgrading the OnePlus 5 and 5T to Android Q when it arrives.

The two arrived in 2017 powered by Android Nougat and have since received two major OS upgrades to Android Oreo and recently Android Pie. With an update to Android Q, it will be the second year running that OnePlus devices receive three major OS upgrades, which is great stuff from such a small company.

To avoid any of those software update excitements that OnePlus 3 and 3T users had following the announcement that they will receive Pie, OnePlus isn’t promising any ETAs for the update to Q, so better sit back and wait.

Given that OnePlus 3/3T got their third major OS upgrade in May 2019, OnePlus 5/5T users are looking at a potential Android Q release date of Q2 2020.
