After being taken under the wing of Lenovo just a few years ago, Motorola has strictly stayed a mobile-only company, delivering strongly back to back. The G series of devices have been a monumental part of the mid-range Android devices, and while Moto G6 may be the face of the family now, the company has not forgotten the predecessors as far as software update are concerned.

Based on reports coming out of Brazil, the older Moto G5S Plus is being upgraded to Android 8.1 Oreo, after running Android 7.1.1 Nougat for a year. The news is confirmed by the official release notes published by Motorola on the Brazillian official website.

Apart from a wave of new features related to the user interface, notification controls and more, the security version is also being updated to August 1, 2018, along with stability improvements.

If you own a Moto G5S Plus, expect the update to be rolled out incrementally, or check for it manually by heading over to Settings – About Phone – System Updates.

In other news, the Android 9 Pie update and its cool new features is a more popular talk these days, with Motorola also confirming its Android 9 rollout plans. Sadly that doesn’t include the Moto G5S Plus for which Android 8.1 seems to be the last major update.
