When it comes to lasting relation between OEMs and its products, Moto once enjoyed a trusted brand, but that’s not the case anymore, even though they have been pretty quick with the Moto Z Droid (stable) and Moto G4 Nougat (beta) updates. Take Moto Maxx for example, the device should be on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, but this unlucky fella is still doing it trade on 5.0.2 — yes, not even 5.1.1.
But anyway, security shouldn’t be a problem on Moto Maxx, as it just received another breath of life in that case in the form of a security patch update, which comes packing in another monthly release from Google. Motorola didn’t share the software version yet.
This update incorporates Google’s security update as of September 2016. Even though the release note warns users that you cannot rollback the update, it shouldn’t bother you as staying to latest is greatest for your Moto Maxx.
This update should come as a relief to the Moto Maxx users, as they now have a more secured device in their hand thanks to update. Though, we’d have loved to see Motorola also stuff October and November patch inside this update. Anyway, the Moto Maxx will stay on Lollipop and is unlikely to receive any future OS overhauls.
Moto Maxx users should find the CM14.1 release exciting as that’s their only route to latest Android OS, Nougat. It should be quite interesting to  see how the latest Android Nougat performs on a 2014 device.
