If you are running short on Gloom in Mortal Shell 2, there is a useful way to turn your spare Gold Coins into experience. The exchange gives you twice as much Gloom as the number of Coins you offer, making it particularly valuable when you have accumulated a large amount of currency.

Gloom is an important progression currency in Mortal Shell 2, while Gold is primarily used for purchases and upgrades. Current guides confirm that the two currencies have separate purposes, so this offering provides a useful way to shift excess Gold into progression.

How to exchange Gold Coins for Gloom in Outskirts of Nochte

The exchange is straightforward once you reach the correct location. You do not need a complicated quest chain or special item; you simply need to have enough Gold Coins available when you interact with the offering point.

Step 1: Travel to Outskirts of Nochte

Make your way to the Outskirts of Nochte area. The region contains several points of interest, including the Waterfall Camp dungeon south of the area’s Beacon.

Step 2: Find the waterfall

Explore the area around the waterfall and look for the fish creature positioned near the water. This is the creature you need to interact with for the Coin-to-Gloom exchange.

Make sure you have the amount of Gold Coins you want to exchange before starting the interaction. The more Coins you offer, the more Gloom you receive.

Step 3: Interact with the fish creature

Speak to or interact with the fish creature near the waterfall. You will be given an option to make an offering.

Step 4: Submit your Gold Coins and collect Gloom

Choose the amount of Coins you want to offer and confirm the exchange. The game converts the Coins into Gloom at a 2:1 return.

Once the offering is accepted, you receive double the amount of Gloom compared with the number of Coins you submitted.

100200
250500
5001,000
1,0002,000

The important point is that you are not losing Coins at a one-to-one rate. The offering doubles the amount as it converts your Gold into Gloom.

How the altar exchange works

You can also perform the same type of exchange at the altar. If you already have access to the altar, you do not necessarily need to return to the fish creature every time you want to make the conversion.

The process is essentially the same: interact with the altar, choose the offering option, submit your Gold Coins, and receive twice that amount in Gloom. This makes the altar a convenient alternative when you are already nearby.

Why the exchange is useful

The biggest advantage comes when you have more Gold than you currently need for equipment and upgrades. Gold is normally used for purchases and upgrading weapons, sidearms and Tarstones, while Gloom is used for character progression.

That means the exchange lets you redirect surplus Gold toward leveling rather than allowing the currency to sit unused. For example, sacrificing 500 Gold Coins gives you 1,000 Gloom, effectively doubling the value of that currency for progression purposes.

It is especially worth considering before a major progression push if you have already purchased the equipment and upgrades you need.

Gold Coins or Gloom: which should you keep?

The answer depends on what you are currently trying to upgrade. Gold remains valuable because it is required for merchants and equipment-related upgrades, so you should not automatically convert every Coin you own.

If you are comfortable with your current weapons, Tarstones and other purchases, however, converting excess Gold into Gloom can be a strong way to accelerate progression. Gloom is also recoverable after death if you return to the location where you died before dying again, making it important to spend or recover it carefully.

A simple approach is to keep enough Gold for your immediate upgrades and convert the surplus into Gloom.
