The Emberseed Stone is an early-game Infusion Tarstone found in a bone chest inside the Passenger’s Shrine dungeon — reached by cleansing the Mushroom Village Beacon in Widow’s Overlook — and it lets you infuse a sidearm with Burn on critical hits.
The Emberseed Stone turns one of your sidearms into a fire weapon, and you can pick it up within the first hour or two of Mortal Shell 2. Here is exactly where the chest is, what the stone does to your ranged attacks, and how the shared Tarstone upgrade path works once you want to push it further.
What is the Emberseed Tarstone
Mortal Shell 2 has 75 Tarstones, and they split into Combat, Infusion, and Ability types that each attach to specific gear. The Emberseed Stone is an Infusion Tarstone, which means it modifies a sidearm rather than a melee weapon — it hangs fire on your ranged weapon instead of changing how your dagger or axe swings.
It’s an early-game pickup, so you can be running a Burn sidearm well before the mid-game. Do not confuse it with the Duality Stone, a melee Tarstone built for dagger-and-axe combos, or the Infused Stone, which you buy from a wandering merchant — those are separate Tarstones entirely.
How to get Emberseed Stone in Mortal Shell 2
Cleanse the Mushroom Village Beacon
Cleanse the Mushroom Village Beacon | Sofa Supastar Gaming/YouTubeReach Mushroom Village in Widow’s Overlook and cleanse the Mushroom Village Beacon — the Passenger’s Shrine dungeon stays sealed until you do, which is the first reason players think the chest is missing.
Take the elevator down
From the beacon, ride the elevator down and follow the path into the Passenger’s Shrine.

Descend past the first Batushka
Clear the first Viletongue Batushka, then use the elevator behind it to drop deeper into the dungeon.

Break the illusory wooden wall
Break the illusory wooden wall | Sofa Supastar Gaming/YouTubeAfter the next Batushka, attack the wooden wall on the right — it’s a breakable, illusory wall hiding the side path, and skipping it is the other reason people swear the chest doesn’t exist.
Follow the path to the bone chest

If the chest is missing, you skipped a gate — cleanse the Mushroom Village Beacon first, then break the illusory wooden wall on the right inside the shrine.
How the Burn infusion works
| Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Consume 20 Resolve to infuse your sidearm with Burn on critical hits |
| Level 2 | Infusion lasts for 4 shots |
| Level 3 | Infusion lasts for 8 shots |
| Level 4 | Infusion is permanent |
Key The Emberseed Stone doesn’t set every shot alight. At Level 1 you spend 20 Resolve to coat your equipped sidearm in Burn, but that Burn only lands on critical hits, ticking damage over time after the shot connects. At the lower levels the infusion is shot-limited too, so it runs dry after a handful of shots and you re-apply — the levels below stretch that window out until it’s permanent.

Paired with the right sidearm it hits hard for so early in the game; a Burn-infused sidearm melts bosses near the Gate beacon for roughly 2000 Gloom per run, so it’s worth grabbing on your first pass through the region.
How to upgrade the Emberseed Stone in Mortal Shell 2
- Loot the Etching Needle – The Etching Needle sits in a chest in the Glutted Mire, which you reach before the Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods boss fight; when you see Ruk past the bridge, drop through the opening and turn right before the tunnel to reach the chest holding the Etching Needle.
- Give it to Franz – Take the Etching Needle to Franz in Marrow Keep to expand the Tarforge’s upgrade options.
- Equip the stone and farm XP – Equip the Emberseed Stone and slay enemies to fill its experience bar.
- Level it up with Franz – Once the XP bar is full, return to Franz to raise the stone to the next level; each level costs Coin.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to upgrade the Emberseed Stone, and is it needed for the Stoned trophy?
No on both counts. The stone works the moment you equip it — Level 1 already gives you 20-Resolve Burn on critical hits, and upgrading only lifts the per-activation shot limit. Upgrading also isn’t tied to the Stoned trophy: that achievement triggers when you collect a specific Tarstone, not by obtaining most of them or maxing any of them out.
Which sidearms can the Emberseed Stone be equipped on?
It slots onto sidearms rather than melee weapons, with the Forgotten Crossbow, Naylshotte, and Ballistazooka among the compatible options. Any sidearm that accepts an Infusion Tarstone can carry the Burn.
