The times are definitely changing with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. We’ve never seen device manufacturers having their updates ready before even Google’s own Nexus devices get it. Motorola started this trend last year with the Android 4.4 KitKat update, and now all major device manufacturers seem to have finally realized that it’s the most natural way to win customers hearts.
We had the LG G3 Korean variant’s (F400S) Lollipop firmware leaked onto the web last week. However, it was reported to be slightly buggy. So, it didn’t seem so apparent that LG would be releasing the Lollipop update sooner. But then another Lollipop firmware leaked over the weekend for the G3, and this time around it’s for the international variant of the device (D855). And surprisingly, it isn’t buggy like the previous leak.
And while we’re enjoying these pretty firmware leaks, LG dropped in another good news that it’ll releasing Android 5.0 Lollipop update officially for the LG G3 this week. It’s just amazing, LG’s track record with updates to latest Android versions isn’t the best. Among the major device manufacturers, I had thought of LG to be the last one to push out the Android 5.0 update, guess I was clearly wrong. LG has finally taken the right path, its 2014’s flagship, the G3, impressed a lot of Android enthusiasts and now it being one of the first devices to get Lollipop update is definitely going to build up more customer loyalty for the company.
However, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update from LG for the G3 doesn’t look appealing. Sure it has the Lollipop features and smooth animations, but LG hasn’t failed to skin it with its own UI. The G3’s Lollipop update is missing the new notification bar swipe-down toggles menu from stock Android 5.0 Lollipop by Google. LG seems to have only given the Lollipop color scheme treatment to the notification bar. Also, the new Battery, Network and WiFi icons in status bar from stock lollipop are also missing in LG’s update.
