At a time when OnePlus 6T has just been launched with Android 9 Pie preinstalled and OnePlus 6 already got the stable update to Pie, it is understandable that any update that is directed towards OnePlus 5 and 5T may easily get fans a little bit overexcited. Well, don’t, at least for now.
In the latest OxygenOS Open Beta updates being rolled out to OnePlus 5 and 5T, there is nothing to do with Android 9 Pie, rather, the update brings the latest Android security patch for the month of October 2018 to both phones.

Besides the upgraded security patch level, you also get the usual bug fixes and system enhancements for a more stable performance. Note that these are beta updates targeting users of the beta software on OnePlus 5 and 5T, where the former’s version is Beta 21 while the latter is on Beta 19.
Both updates are airborne, meaning you’ll have to be a little bit more patient before the OTA download notification arrives on your device. You’ll have to be even more patient as far as an update to Android 9 Pie is concerned.
