BlackBerry started rolling out the BlackBerry PRIV’s June 2017 security patch a few days ago, just two days before Verizon released the PRIV’s May 2017 security patch for its users, but it seems as though US wireless carrier and Verizon rival T-Mobile isn’t wasting any time pushing the security patch for PRIV users.
A new report from T-Mobile has published the June 2017 security patch for PRIV users, bringing the build number to AAL746 but maintaining the system update at Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (no Nougat yet). The update is available starting today, June 12th. T-Mobile has updated the BlackBerry PRIV to the January 2017 security patch and February 2017 security patch, so the carrier is working with BlackBerry to ensure a smooth experience for its users.
BlackBerry is to be commended for rolling out Android security patches, but these security patches are a teaser for those who were waiting for the handset’s price to come down before picking one up. Unfortunately, American customers can no longer pick up a BlackBerry PRIV device from BlackBerry’s website, as the manufacturer has halted sales of the BlackBerry PRIV, Classic, Passport, and Leap phones in the US.
PRIV users, head on over to your phone Settings » About phone and hit that update button. With sales discontinued in the States, it’s uncertain how long BlackBerry will sustain rolling out security patches and system updates for a discontinued phone.
