Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy is, for many gamers, the Harry Potter game we’ve all been waiting for. An open-world, action RPG that lets you build your own wizard, live your own adventure, and do your own “chosen one” thing without that attention-hogging magical scarface stealing the spotlight. And it looks awesome.
But if you have been wondering which platforms, particularly the consoles in PS4 and Xbox One, will the game become available on, well read on to find all you need to know about it.
What is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy?
Imagine a Skyrim, Witcher, or Assassin’s Creed game but with a hell of a lot more Quidditch. Yes, Hogwarts Legacy is going to be a full-blown action RPG that lets players explore the wizarding world with the unrestricted freedom that makes the great open-world RPG games so immersive.
Players will be joining the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry more than a century before the titular golden boy ever sees a flash of green light and well before Voldemort had a name — or nostrils, for that matter. Full-blown character customization, branching narrative, potions, quidditch, and even — it seems — a chance to go dark and be more tyrant than savior.
The game puts on quite the show in the trailer revealed at the PS5 Showcase event, and quickly got the many legions of Harry Potter fans and RPG enthusiasts fired up about the chance to don the black robes and start lobbing spells at fantastic beasts and halfway-decent people.
But not everyone’s sure about what next-gen console they want to go with yet, or are reluctant to pony up the couple hundreds of dollars to pick up either come November, so many are naturally wondering:
Will Hogwarts Legacy be on PS4 and Xbox One?
And there’s good news for those sitting on the console fence: Sony has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be on PS4, Xbox One, both of the next-gen consoles and PC. The PS5 event left the question of what platforms Hogwarts Legacy will be made available on, especially with the incredible rendering and visual fireworks on display in the trailer, but Warner Bros confirmed on a Hogwarts Legacy FAQ that the game will be released across current and next-gen platforms.
There’s no hard word yet on when an exact release date can be expected beyond a mere assertion that it will be some time in 2021, so players chomping at the bit to burst down the doors of Hogwarts, don the Sorting Hat, and start using the Defense Against the Dark Arts course as more of an instruction in Offense With the Dark Arts will have to wait a little while longer for an answer.
But rest assured that Hogwarts Legacy will be worth the wait.
Are you as fired up as everyone else for Hogwarts Legacy, or still skeptical about the newest foray into the Wizarding World?
