iOS 17 Journal App Missing: Where is the Journal App in iOS 17

What to know

  • Journal is Apple’s version of your personal diary that helps to mark your life’s biggest events and revisit them in the future.
  • Apple says the Journal app will be available in a software update later this year; so you may soon be able to use it.
  • When the app becomes available, you can access it after updating your iPhone to the latest iOS version by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

What is the Journal App in iOS 17?

Apple announced a new app in iOS 17 called Journal that’s designed to help you reflect on events throughout your day by letting you jot them down like you would on a personal diary. The app will use on-device processing to show personalized suggestions that are curated from your recent activity by recommending photos, people, places, and workouts that you were part of. This way you’ll be constantly reminded to make entries as you move on with your day.

Entries to your journal can be made using plain text as well as photos, music, audio recordings, and more. You can use the Journal app to mark your life’s biggest events and revisit them in the future to set new goals and find new insights. At all times, your journals are synced with iCloud using end-to-end encryption and for added protection, you can lock your journals, possibly using Face ID or a passcode.

Where is the Journal App in iOS 17?

As of the time of writing, the Journal app is still missing inside iOS 17. You will neither be able to find it inside the App Library on your iPhone nor is there a Journal app listed by Apple on the App Store. While there may be other apps with the same name on the App Store, we recommend steering clear from them as they won’t be related to Apple in any way.

When will Apple release the Journal App?

Until now, Apple has only shared a glimpse of what you can expect from the Journal app in iOS 17. In its official press release, Apple said that the new Journal app will be available in a software update later this year. Since we’re nearing the last quarter of 2023, we can expect this app to be released sometime within the next couple of months.

When Apple does eventually release the Journal app, it may not be available directly from the App Store. You may only be able to use it after installing the latest version of iOS available at the time by going to Settings > General > Software Update

That’s all you need to know about the Journey app in iOS 17.
