The little things can make all the difference and Apple has more or less mastered the art of perfecting the little things. Whether it’s the way an Apple user will consume their notifications or the new look for the Map, the thought really counts when such changes are made. These are some additions that many Apple users did not know they needed in the first place.

So yes, the iPhone experience is smooth, intuitive, and intelligent to say the least, with small brilliant additions that are thoughtful and creative. One feature, though not as grand in the scheme of things, is one that is definitely worth exploring. So here’s what happens when you pin in iMessage.

What is pinning on iMessage?

Pinning was first introduced back in 2020 as part of the iOS 14 update. However, the original purpose of this feature was to help users mark important conversations that will then be available on top of the other chats in your chat list. You can pin up to 9 conversations using this feature.

In the recent WWDC 2021 event, Apple elevated the pinning feature and you can now pin a single message or shared content from another user within a conversation.

What happens when you pin in iMessage?

When you pin a message on iMessage, it will then remind you to check the content at a higher frequency than it would in the case of unpinned content by presenting it frequently on your Search. The ‘Shared with You’ feature in tandem with the pin feature, prioritizes the consumption of pinned content and notifies the user to view it via notifications and Share with You sections.

How to pin a message in iMessage

Simply long-press the message/content that you wish to pin and it will be pinned.

Alternatively, simply swipe from left to right on the conversation you want to pin. Now, tap on the Yellow button with the Pin icon. That’s it.

Here’s a look at what a pinned message looks like.

Where can I find my pinned messages?

Use the guide below to find your pinned messages in any message conversation in case you are running iOS 15 or higher.

Open iMessage and navigate to the concerned conversation. Now tap on the contact’s name at the top of your screen. Scroll down and you will find all your pinned messages in the ‘Pins’ section.

Tap on ‘See all’ to find the rest of your pins in the selected conversation.

What can you pin in iMessage?

You can pin all kinds of shared media and links within a conversation in iMessage. You can also pin shared photos, videos, URLs, and more. However, the ability to pin text messages within a conversation seems to be missing from iMessage for now. Apple might introduce this is a feature in the coming update but there seems to be no concrete information out there regarding this. For now, you can only pin shared media files and links within an iMessage conversation.

So what do you think about the pin feature? Do let us know in the comments. Take care and stay safe!
