Huawei Y9 Android 9 Pie update
- Both 2018 and 2019 models are eligible for an update to Android 9 Pie
- Beta testing ongoing in China
- EMUI 9.1 beta available too
Huawei Y9 2018 is the first of its kind and it comes preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo – and so does its successor, the Y9 2019. This means that in addition to coming with Google’s Project Treble support, the duo is also likely to receive an update to Android 9 Pie quite early.
Well, it’s happening as the two are already eligible to try EMUI 9.1 beta, but only for their Chinese variants. In China, the Y9 2018 is known as Huawei Enjoy 8 Plus while the Y9 2019 goes by the name Enjoy 9 Plus.
It remains to be seen how Project Treble will aid Huawei Y9 duo, but given how effective this initiative turns out heavily depends on the smartphone vendor’s willingness to roll out swift updates coupled with the fact that the Y9 2018 and Y9 2019 are budget devices could see us wait until Q2 or maybe Q3 2019 for Android 9 Pie update to arrive.
