April 27, 2019: Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a new update in China. The device becomes among the first to receive EMUI 9.1 beta, which Huawei says is meant to streamline and enhance the quality of your experience. There’s more to this story here.

It’s unclear when the global model will get this same update, although it’s still worth noting that the rollout in China is limited. This suggests that it could take several weeks before the global public version arrives.

As for those using the stable EMUI 9.0, a new update is also available as version B171. Besides installing April 2019 security patches, the update also improves camera performance and stability, fixes an issue where the screen sometimes freezes and turns black, and improves system performance and app launch speeds in certain scenarios.

Huawei Mate 20 Lite Android 9 Pie update

  • Android Pie stable expected in Q1 2019
  • Beta update available as EMUI 9.0

Huawei Mate 20 Lite, unlike the others in the Mate 20 series, comes preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo. Given its class, the Mate 20 Lite is expected to get two Android OS upgrades, beginning with Android 9 Pie.

The beta update to Pie is already available as EMUI 9.0, with the stable rollout expected after a few weeks of testing, probably somewhere in mid-Q1 2019.
