If you’re holding on to an Honor 6X smartphone, then we have some good news for you today. Huawei is rolling out a new update for your device which is carrying the September security patch.

The Honor 6X remains one of the most popular phones Huawei ever released, even if it’s almost two-years-old.

The phone launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, and since then the company has upgraded it to Oreo. And as it seems, Huawei is still committed to keeping it up to date with the latest security patches. Which is quite admirable.

The new update comes as software version BLN-L22C675B368 and weighs only 168MB. It’s a small download, but even so, make sure you are on a stable Wi-Fi before starting the update process.

But even if Huawei keeps pushing security patches to the Honor 6X, don’t get your hopes up about the phone receiving Android 9.0 Pie. Unfortunately, the handset will most likely remain at Oreo. We do hope that developers will be kind enough to release some Android Pie-based custom ROMs for the device, so not everything is lost.

The same applies for the Honor 6X’s successor, the Honor 7X, which is also not eligible to receive Android 9.0 Pie.
