EMUI 5.0 is the Android 7.0 Nougat version of Huawei’s custom skin for its Android devices. It’s now rolling out for the Huawei P9 Plus, and will soon follow on with Honor 8 and other recently launched phones by the Chinese manufacturer.

If you’re someone like us though, then apart from the excitement of using EMUI 5.0 with Android 7.0 Nougat on your Huawei phone, you’d also be concerned about root access.

Rooting EMUI 5.0 would be easy with SuperSU or Magisk, but you’ll need a custom recovery like TWRP for flashing the zip files. And unfortunately, the previous TWRP builds based on EMUI 4.0 might not work on the EMUI 5.0 running devices.

In that case, unless a newer TWRP recovery build is not available for the Huawei EMUI 5.0 firmware for your device, you won’t be able to root it.

This is not something to worry about though. The developers working on TWRP recovery for your device should be able to come around the new EMUI 5.0 firmware without much problem and in a matter of couple days/weeks from the release of official Nougat update for the device.

One you’ve TWRP, you can simply install/flash either SuperSU or Magisk zip to get root access. Links for both are given below:
