Most players beat the Giant Piranha by kiting it with the Shotgun — sprint away, turn, empty both barrels, then run again while you reload — and treat dynamite as bonus area damage for the swarm of smaller piranhas, especially once the boss shifts into its second phase. That works, but a single showcase run flips the priority: dynamite becomes the main damage dealer, with the shotgun there to clear the adds, and it can carry the kill outright.
The catch is that dynamite does not stun the boss, and it will happily blow you up if you are standing next to it when the fuse runs out. That is exactly why the light-drop-run rhythm matters so much — light the stick, drop it where the boss is, and be moving before it goes off. When the health bar empties, the Giant Piranha drops the Giant Piranha Skeleton — pick it up and carry it back to the lady by the lake, because handing her the Skeleton is what gives you the coordinates for Island 3. Beating the boss on its own does not unlock the next island; skip the hand-in and you strand your own progression right at the finish.
Only once that is done should you treat the rest as loot. All that dynamite blasts loose a huge spread of dead fish, so sweep them up along with the Meat Chunk the boss leaves behind and feed the lot to the captain sitting outside the cabin for a tidy pile of cash.
