How to Find Latest Releases on Spotify from Artists You Follow

There are now several thousands of artists who host their music and podcasts on Spotify and with so many new tracks releasing every week, it can be a tough task trying to find the latest tracks from artists you really like. Unless you were really into music and you follow all the blogs related to the bands and singers you follow, there was no easy way to know when your favorite artists dropped a new album or a soundtrack.

What’s the new Spotify feature all about?

Spotify has announced a new section labeled “What’s New Feed” to its music streaming app on iOS and Android that will help you minimize the time you spend searching for new releases from an artist or podcaster you like. This makes sure you don’t feel left out about any new releases from artists if you’re the sort of person who doesn’t check social media quite too often.

Prior to this update, Spotify suggested newer releases from your favorite artists through its Release Radar section – a playlist that was personalized with the newest tracks from your favorite artists which included both those you follow and also those whose stuff you listen to the most.

Although it has remained inside the Spotify app for several years now, Release Radar never really picked up the spotlight since it only showed single tracks from artists and not an entire album and the entries were almost always late to the game.

The new What’s New Feed appears to be based on the Follow Feed feature that was being tested by Spotify last year. It previewed a similar dedicated space that showed new singles and albums from artists you followed.

How to Find Latest Releases from Artists you follow on Spotify

To use the new What’s New Feed on Spotify, you need to first update the Spotify app on Android and iOS by clicking the links below:

Once you’ve installed the latest version of the app, open it. If the feature is available on your device, you should see a new bell icon at the top right corner of the screen inside the Home Tab.

When there are new songs, albums, or episodes from artists you follow, you should see a blue dot on top of the bell icon that should indicate that there are new releases you might not have known of. The blue dot should appear if there are any new releases from the last time you checked your What’s New feed.

If there are no new releases from the last time you checked this section, you will still see the bell icon but without the blue dot.

When you open the What’s New Feed, you should see a list of all the latest releases from artists and podcasts you follow on Spotify in reverse chronology. This means the latest release from your favorite artists will appear at the top followed by older releases (those released before the latest track).

You should also be able to see the actual timestamp of the releases so that you can check when the tracks were published.

Releases you might have checked out in the past but are still relatively new will appear under ‘Earlier’ in this list.

All the entries will be marked by their type so you know whether the latest release is a single, an album, an EP, or an episode from a podcast followed by the name of the artist.

Spotify offers you a neat way to filter songs and podcasts by providing dedicated toggles for “Music” and “Podcasts & Shows”. This lets you view the latest releases based on the content you’re looking for at a particular time.

Tapping on ‘Music’ will only show new tracks and albums that your favorite artists have released.

When you select the ‘Podcasts & Shows’ tab, you will see the latest episodes from your favorite speaker or group.

If you feel like your What’s New Feed doesn’t have a long list of new releases, that’s because of two things – either the artists you follow don’t release tracks anymore (or not that frequently) or you simply do not follow that many artists on Spotify.

It’s important to know that for the What’s New Feed to show new releases, you should actually follow the artist you’re interested in instead of following playlists with songs from them. For instance, if you follow Spotify’s dedicated “This is” playlist of an artist, it doesn’t mean that you have followed that particular artist.

To make sure you can see the latest tracks from them, you need to go to the artist’s page on Spotify and tap on the ‘Follow’ button.

Your What’s New feed will be longer depending on how many artists or creators you follow on Spotify.

That’s all you need to know about the What’s New Feed on Spotify.
