How To Delete Clubhouse and What Happens When You Do So?

Tried Clubhouse but did not like it? Well, you can always delete your account and move to a different platform that better suits your needs. However, Clubhouse is based on exclusivity and is currently thriving thanks to millions of users joining the platform every day.

However, as you might have found out, deleting your Clubhouse account is as hard as getting an invite to the platform. So how do you do it? Let’s find out!

How to delete your Clubhouse account

Clubhouse has a promising FAQ and help section posted on their notion.so collaboration page, however, these guides seem to be incomplete, with many links redirecting you to the homepage.

Among these links is the guide that would help you delete your account. This has put off many users from the platform while many speculating that it is a tactic to keep users from deleting their accounts.

Either way, you don’t have a dedicated utility or feature within Clubhouse that lets you delete your account with one simple click. Instead, you will have to email Clubhouse support team to get your account deleted. Here is the procedure you should follow.

Step 1: Associate an email address with your account

If you registered using your phone number then chances are that you do not have an email ID associated with your account. Follow the guide below to add an email ID to your Clubhouse account.

Open the Clubhouse app and tap on your profile in the top right corner.

Now you will see an ‘@’ icon in the top right corner of your screen. Tap on it, to get started.

You will now get a dialog box asking you to verify your email address. Enter your email ID in the text box and tap on ‘Verify’ once you are done.

Now head to your email ID and click on the verification link sent by Clubhouse.

And that’s it! Your email ID should now be associated with your Clubhouse account.

Step 2: Submit a deletion request

Once you have a registered email ID associated with your Clubhouse account, simply visit the link below in your preferred browser.

Clubhouse Support Link

Now enter your email address at the top and subsequently your Clubhouse username in the next text box.

Choose ‘My Account & Profile’ from the drop-down menu. Subsequently, select ‘Delete My Account’ from the next drop-down menu.

Enter a subject for your support ticket under the ‘Summary’ section. Finally, make a compelling request in the ‘What can we help with’ section to the Clubhouse support team to proceed with the deletion of your account.

We also recommend including an attachment to your profile in case you are using an unregistered email ID. This will help the team verify your ownership of the account though, they will probably need more information once they get back to your support ticket.

Click on ‘Submit’ once you are done.

And that’s it! Your support ticket will now be created and a confirmation mail for the same should be sent to your registered email ID.

Clubhouse Account Delete issues

What if I don’t have the ‘@’ icon on my profile page

This is a known issue faced by me as well at the time of writing this post. The best possible scenario, in this case, seems to be that there might already be an email ID associated with your account.

If you don’t remember using your email ID, you should search your email for a verification email from Clubhouse which will indicate that your email is already registered on the app.

Another possibility, for now, seems to be that this feature might have been removed for fairly new users.

There is no additional information on this issue for now and we recommend using your unregistered email ID to get in touch with the support team to solve this issue.

How long will it take for my Clubhouse account to delete?

This is where things get a bit messy. There is no straightforward timeline regarding this procedure and recent reports seem to suggest that the Clubhouse support team is flooded with deletion requests.

Many users have gotten an email back from Gmail saying that their email couldn’t be delivered to Clubhouse as their inbox is full.

Other users that have managed to get their account deleted suggest that it took them multiple emails back and forth with the team to finally delete their account.

Some even had to create multiple support tickets. We don’t recommend doing this out of the gate but if you do not get a reply from the support team within a week then you should surely give it a try.

Additionally, if you too get a reply saying that the Clubhouse team can not receive your email, then you should definitely send in another request to get in the queue again.

Can I deactivate my Clubhouse account?

Sadly, it seems that there is no option for the deactivation of accounts on the Clubhouse platforms. Unlike other social media platforms that offer you a grace period by deactivating your account for a month, Clubhouse seems to simply delete your account upon your request.

This falls directly in co-relation with their business model for exclusivity as once your account has been deleted, you would need an invite again to join Clubhouse.

It is not clear exactly if users with deleted accounts will get a grace period to access their account again but it seems highly unlikely considering the air of exclusivity around Clubhouse. You can keep a check on their support page which should be updated with relevant links in the coming weeks as the platform adjusts to the huge rise in users recently.

We hope this post helps shed some light on how you can delete your Clubhouse account. If you have any more questions or face any more issues, feel free to reach out to us using the comments section below.
