In Gothic 1 Remakeyou should give the sealed letter to Milten to get the highest possible EXP reward (400 XP) and unlock a chance to choose an additional reward from Torrez.

Why Give the Letter to Milten?

Giving the sealed letter to Milten is the optimal choice because it rewards you with 400 experience points—double what Torrez gives—and unlocks a second interaction with Torrez where you can pick your preferred reward.

Available Rewards from Torrez (After Giving Letter to Milten)

  1. Essence Potion (+2 permanent Mana) — Best for mage builds.

  2. Scroll of Fireball — Strong early combat spell.

  3. Scroll of Ball Lightning — Multi-target spell.

  4. Scroll of Transform into Fire Lizard — Unique transformation spell.

  5. Ring of Dexterity (+5 Dex) — Best for archers/thieves.

  6. Ring of Power (+5 Str, -5 Dex) — Melee fighters only.

Choosing Milten gives you flexibility to match your character’s build, while giving it directly to Torrez locks you into just the Ring of Power.

How to Give the Letter to Milten (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Find Milten

Location: Milten stands directly in front of the temple inside the castle area.
Tip: You need to be in Chapter 2 to enter the Inner Ring where the castle is located.

Step 2: Talk to Milten

Approach Milten and initiate conversation. The dialogue menu will appear with two options:

  1. First option: “Give letter to Torrez” (wrong choice)

  2. Second option: “Give letter to Milten” (correct choice)

Step 3: Select the Correct Option Carefully

Critical: Click the second dialogue option to give the letter to Milten. If you click too fast, you might accidentally select the first option and give it to Torrez instead.

Step 4: Collect Your EXP Reward

After giving the sealed letter, you immediately receive 400 XP.

Step 5: Talk to Torrez for Your Bonus Reward

Location: Torrez sits on a bench to the right of the temple (when facing it).
Speak to him after talking with Milten, and he’ll offer you one reward to choose from (see the 6 options above).

Critical Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don’t open the letter — Breaking the seal reduces EXP by 100 points (gives 300 XP instead of 400 XP).

  • Don’t click dialogue too fast — Accidentally selecting the first option gives the letter to Torrez instead of Milten.

  • Don’t give the letter to Torrez directly — You’ll only get 200 XP and no choice of reward.

  • Don’t miss the Torrez conversation — You must talk to Torrez after Milten to claim your bonus reward.

Torrez Bench to the right of the temple (facing it) Sitting down

Both are in the Inner Ring castle area, accessible in Chapter 2.

What Happens If You Open the Letter?

Opening the letter breaks the seal and changes the rewards:

Choice Opened Letter EXP Sealed Letter EXP
Give to Milten 300 XP 400 XP
Give to Torrez 100 XP 200 XP

Which Torrez Reward Should You Choose?

For Mage Builds

Essence Potion (+2 permanent Mana) — Increases your mana pool permanently, essential for casting more spells

For Melee Fighters

Ring of Power (+5 Str, -5 Dex) — Boosts damage but reduces accuracy; best for pure strength builds

For Archers/Thieves

Ring of Dexterity (+5 Dex) — Improves accuracy and ranged damage; ideal for bow users

For Early Combat Power

Scroll of Fireball — One of the strongest early-game spells for clearing groups of enemies.

Give the sealed letter to Milten for the best outcome: 400 XP + a choice of 6 rewards from Torrez. This is the optimal path for any first playthrough, giving you maximum flexibility for your character build and the highest experience gain early in the game.
