The route from the Old Camp to the New Camp
The New Camp sits west of the Old Camp near the largest body of water in the Colony. If you leave through the southern gate of the Old Camp and continue west toward the lake, you’ll eventually reach the camp’s territory. However, this route contains hostile creatures and bandits that can be difficult for new players to defeat.

Because of these dangers, most players should avoid making the journey alone during the opening hours of the game.
How to reach the New Camp safely
The easiest and safest method is connected to the quest “Out of Sight” received from Thorus in the Old Camp. Instead of attacking Mordrag, speak with him and ask about his work for the New Camp. He will offer to escort you there personally.
Progress through the early Old Camp quests until Thorus assigns the “Out of Sight” quest.

Find Mordrag near one of the Old Camp exits and talk to him instead of fighting him. Ask Mordrag about the New Camp and express your interest in going there. He will begin escorting you across the Colony.

Stay close to Mordrag as he travels. He will handle most enemies encountered along the way, making the trip much safer than traveling alone.
Once you reach the New Camp entrance, you’ll need to convince the guards to let you pass. Mentioning Mordrag’s ring allows you to gain access and continue toward the camp’s inner area.
The camp itself is built around a lake and cave system. To reach Lares:
Enter the camp and move past the farming area. Cross the bridge leading toward the upper section. Enter the large cave complex.

Keep to the left side and follow the elevated path. Continue uphill until you reach Lares’ residence.
Important locations you’ll discover
| Location | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Lake Tavern | Quests, merchants, and camp activity |
| Rice Fields | Home of the Rice Lord and workers |
| Lares’ House | Main faction leadership |
| Water Mage Area | Important later-game faction content |
| Bandit District | Trainers and traders |
| Free Mine Path | Access to New Camp mining operations |
What happens after reaching the camp
Arriving at the New Camp does not automatically make you a member. Lares will assign several tasks designed to prove your loyalty and usefulness. These quests involve helping camp residents, earning ore, and building trust with important figures such as the Rice Lord. Completing enough of these objectives eventually allows you to join the New Camp officially.

Keep in mind that joining the New Camp locks you into that faction path and prevents joining the Old Camp or Swamp Camp later.
The New Camp is one of the most rewarding locations to visit early in Gothic 1 Remake, but the wilderness between camps can be deadly for inexperienced characters. Following Mordrag during the “Out of Sight” quest provides the safest route, grants you an introduction to Lares, and sets you up for the entire New Camp faction storyline. For most players, this is the recommended way to discover the camp for the first time.
