How to Complete The Focus in the Monastery Ruins
Step 1: Find Gorn at the Ravine
Travel to the Monastery Ruins region (upper-right point of the pentagram map from Saturas). When you reach a ravine crossed by a log with a path leading down to your right, you’ll encounter Gorn.
Talk to him—he wants to explore the monastery but wants to check the path first for ambushes. Tell him you should explore together.
Step 2: Clear the Ravine and Find Meatbug Scrolls
Follow Gorn down the path to the right through the ravine.
Snappers await below—kill them and proceed through the cave at the other side.
Inside, you’ll find a chest containing Transform into Meatbug scrolls (you’ll need these soon).
Step 3: Cross the Log and Fight Snappers
Head back up to the ravine top and cross over the log to the other side. A pack of Snappers will descend on you and Gorn—defeat them.
Step 4: Open the Locked Gate with Meatbug Transformation
Go around the corner to find the locked gate leading into the monastery and a winch beyond it. Gorn notes only meatbugs can pass through (there are two crawling at your feet).

Use the Transform into Meatbug scroll found in the chest to turn yourself into a Meatbug.

Pass through the small crack in the wall to the right of the gate

Press Enter to cancel the spell once you reach the other side

Use the winch to open the gate

Talk to Gorn again (don’t try to access the winch as a Meatbug—that causes an action lock-up)
Alternative: If you wasted your Meatbug scrolls, use the rocks/structure right of the crack to parkour into the monastery ruins.
Step 5: Clear the Courtyard and Find the Shadowbeast
Gorn will unintentionally make you fight a pack of Snappers in the courtyard.
When done, head toward a cave near the back left wall.
You’ll encounter more Snappers and a Shadowbeast at the end.
Step 6: Retrieve the Focus Stone
Use the door in the wall at the end of the cave and open the chests to find the Focus Stone.
Step 7: Kill the Young Troll
Once you come back out, you and Gorn will encounter a young troll.
Unlike adult trolls, you can kill a young troll by hacking away at him normally. Magic also works very well.
After killing it, Gorn will say he’s hanging around the monastery—you can submit the Focus and complete the quest.
Critical Mistakes to Avoid

Don’t try to use the winch as a Meatbug—this causes an action lock-up that’s hard to escape.

Don’t waste your Transform into Meatbug scrolls before this quest—you need them for the gate.

Save some Meatbug scrolls if possible—they’re useful for other occasions.

Remember to press Enter to cancel the Meatbug transformation after passing through the crack.
