In November, Google launched its newest Android 5.O Lollipop update which since then can be found on all new Android running smartphones. After the KitKat which was more of a security update, Google’s newest offering brought brand new features and a new material interface for its users. However, certain discrepancies and bugs associated with the lollipop have forced Google to bring out a couple of updates cum bug fixes, namely Android 5.0.1 and Android 5.0.2, which are being delivered over the air to Lollipop running devices by Google as well as Smartphone manufacturers.
Continuing in this vein, Google has finally announced an update for the hitherto ignored Android One running devices. Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V and Spice Dream Uno — all of which run the Android One — will be the first to receive the most recent version of Android — the Android 5.1 update. According to Google’s Caesar Sengupta “We’ve already started rolling out Lollipop to a small number of phones in India. This is a gradual process and so each week we’ll push the OTA update to more phones selected at random”.
Although the 5.1 has not been mentioned by Sengupta, still based on the fact that Android One devices released in Indonesia and Philippines recently with spec-sheet and hardware much similar to the Indian versions can be found running the 5.1.
While officially, we do not know what this update will entail, we can expect material design changes, ART as default run time instead of the age-old Dalvik and performance & stability improvements. Smarter notifications are also all but certain to be part of the package.
All in all, if your phone is eligible for receiving this update, we advice you to rest assured — you will receive it, just don’t expect to receive it instantly, what with the update is being released on a weekly basis. However, turning that high speed Wi-fi connection on may be of help in getting it a bit sooner.
Stay tuned as we bring you more on the details of the package.
