Essential Phone will support bootloader unlocking

Previously, we had reported that the Essential Phone’s warranty will be void if you root it. Today we got to confirm from Essential’s official Twitter account, that the company will let you unlock your bootloader without having to fiddle around using unofficial methods, thought this will surely void your warranty.

As an unlocked device, the Essential Phone has a lot of hidden potential buried under the surface. Once the popular custom ROMs catch up to the device, you’ll be able to take advantage of that amazing 19:10 display along with the powerful Snapdragon 835 SoC. The device also features many state of the art features, save for water and dust resistance.

The Essential Phone comes with a clean stock build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat and we expected nothing less, as the CEO of Essential, Andy Rubin, is none other than the creator of Android. If you’re getting the device for the complete user experience that Andy Rubin hopes to provide, then you may want to hold off unlocking and flashing a custom ROM.
