QUICK ANSWER
Yes, in How to Fish by Dazed Games on Steam, you can cook guns on the grill, and cooking one raises its sale value by up to the same 1.5x multiplier the game uses for fish.

Cook any gun you plan to sell and pull it from the grill when its multiplier reaches 1.5x. How to Fish, the physics fishing-and-shooting game from Dazed Games on Steam, applies the same cooking bonus to weapons, fish, and other sellable items, turning unwanted gear into extra cash after just a few seconds over the flame.

What cooking a gun actually does

Key Cooking is purely a money mechanic. Hold an item over the grill and its value climbs toward a 1.5x peak. The boost applies to guns and other items as well as fish, so cook any weapon you no longer want before selling it for more cash.

Cooking does not change how the gun shoots. A cooked weapon does not hit harder, reload faster, or gain any other advantage for a boss fight. Use the grill strictly to increase the resale value of gear you are about to hand over to a vendor.

Unlocking grill access on island 3

You cannot cook anything until you unlock the grill through the Grillmaster achievement on the game’s third island. Bring the grill master a shark and he will let you use his setup.

STEP 01 · OF 04

Talk to the grill master

On island 3, talk to the grill master and accept his request for a shark.

STEP 02 · OF 04

Buy the Standard Boss Lure

Buy the lure for $280 and use it to summon the shark.

STEP 03 · OF 04

Fish up and kill the shark

Cast the lure, reel in the shark, and kill it. A maxed Uzi is enough to finish the fight.

STEP 04 · OF 04

Bring the shark back

Return the shark to the grill master to unlock the grill and complete Grillmaster.

The island’s coconut trees can block your dodges, so watch your footing throughout the fight. The shark occasionally gets caught on a tree, giving you time to land some free damage, but keep moving instead of relying on it.

Reading the flame so you pull at 1.5x

Item state Result
Raw, uncooked Base value, 1x multiplier
Cooked to the peak 1.5x value — pull it here
Burnt solid black Value drops to 0, near-useless
Gun cooked before selling Sells for up to 1.5x its normal price

Hold the item over the flame and press F to inspect it as it cooks. The panel displays Value, Cooking multiplier, Weight, and Killscore, with each number updating in real time while the item remains over the grill.

Watch the multiplier rise from 1x to 1.5x, then pull the item immediately. Leaving it over the flame any longer turns it solid black and drops its value to 0. A burnt catch is worthless and restores almost no health or hunger, so grab every item at the peak before it chars.

QUICK WIN

Press F while the item is over the flame and pull it the instant the multiplier reads 1.5x — a second too long and it burns black for nothing.

Skins, camos, and when to leave a gun raw

Leave any weapon with a skin or camo you want to keep off the grill. After two guns were accidentally cooked, their skins were no longer visible and the camos had vanished. Whether this is an intended mechanic or a bug is unclear, but cooking puts a weapon’s cosmetics at risk.

Other things the grill is good for

Lighting the grill for the first time earns you Grillmaster, so completing the unlock quest also completes the achievement. The grill has one intentional use for burnt food: earning Yummy in my tummy requires you to cook a mini-boss until it turns solid black and then eat the burnt creature. In every other case, pull the item at its peak because charring it destroys its value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cooking a gun make it stronger in combat?

No. Cooking only increases an item’s sale value toward the 1.5x peak. It does not change a weapon’s damage, handling, or combat performance, so leave any gun you plan to keep using off the grill.

Is lava cooking safer than the grill once I reach the volcano?

Yes. On the fifth island, the volcano, lava cooks at exactly 1.5x with no timing risk at all. There is no burn window to watch, so every item you drop in comes out at peak value. Use lava to prepare items for sale once you reach the volcano; the grill is your only cooking option on the earlier islands.
