Finding and cornering both cats in Huther

The two-cat hunt takes place entirely in the town square right outside the castle, so you never have to wander far. Start from the traveler’s spot near the fountain and sweep the central, castle-front area first — that is where the pair tends to be loitering. The first cat is the one that reacts to you: it bolts as soon as you approach, so treat it as a short chase rather than a walk-up. Going right from the fountain is a reliable line on it, and once you have it boxed against the scenery you can grab it cleanly. Descriptions of this cat differ a little — some put a white cat right by the fountain, others a black-and-white cat over on the east side of town — but it is the same skittish cat sitting close to the central area either way, so sweep that zone and you will trigger the chase.

After the first cat is in hand, do not run straight back to the traveler. The second cat is another nearby town cat, usually a short distance from where the first chase ends — roughly north of your finishing spot, or a little further east across the square. Its exact position is the one detail the town layout doesn’t pin down precisely, so the practical approach is to scan the immediate area around you for a second cat and walk up to it before leaving. With both cats collected, loop back to the Ailurophilic Traveler near the fountain and hand them over to close out the quest.

The turn-in pays out 3 Fatty Fish, which you can feed to cats to raise their affection toward Elliot. That is the whole immediate reward — but the more valuable thing you just unlocked is the cat-collection exchange itself. From here on, bringing cats to the traveler feeds an ongoing item-reward track, and the two cats from this quest count as the first two toward the game’s total of 50 cats. You catch these 2 during Capricious Neighbors, another 11 later in the Age of Safekeeping, and the rest are spread across the other ages, so it is worth revisiting the traveler as your count climbs.

Collecting all 50 is what earns the Medal of the Katzenmeister and its associated trophy — you may see the official name spaced slightly differently in places, but it is the same reward for a full cat roster.

Common mistakes that stall this quest

Almost every problem here traces back to story timing. If the traveler and cats aren’t responding at all, you likely haven’t pushed the Moonmirror beat far enough — make sure you’ve spoken to Euygene in the castle (and progressed past that story point) before expecting the quest to appear. Related to that, don’t hunt for a quest marker inside the castle: nothing triggers indoors, and the scene that starts Capricious Neighbors only fires once you step outside into the town square. Whether it fully auto-starts or you accept it by speaking to the traveler can read slightly differently version to version, but either way it kicks off right after you leave the castle.

The other big one is the second cat. Plenty of players catch the first, wander off, and then wonder why the quest is stuck — you need both in hand before the turn-in registers. Finally, don’t treat this as a one-and-done errand.
