The armor is built for acid-heavy fights: excellent protection when acid is the problem, but its awareness penalty makes it a deliberate swap instead of a default exploration outfit.

Start at the opening of Chapter 7’s Giant Tree Zone, take the nearby Keeper Galen detour, descend toward Giant Tree: Root Depths, and open the strongbox by the camp.

Keeper Galen is a nearby optional stop at the start of this route. Talking to him adds exploration data to the map and starts The Swordmage quest, so take the detour while you are already passing through the area.
Key It is not required for the Amber Breastplate. If you only want the armor, continue toward Giant Tree: Root Depths and open the strongbox near the camp area.
When Amber Breastplate is worth equipping
Equip Amber Breastplate when acid damage is killing you. It is especially useful going into the Corvus fight, where acid-element attacks make resistance more valuable than a cleaner awareness profile.
The tradeoff is comfort. With Extreme enemy awareness, enemies notice Emma more easily, so stealthy movement and low-aggro exploration feel rougher than usual.
Use Amber Breastplate as a boss-fight swap when acid damage is the problem, then change back if enemy awareness starts pulling too much attention during exploration.
Other acid-resistance armor choices
If Amber Breastplate feels too risky for regular movement, Garb of Tranquility is not a stat substitute for it. Do not build around the previously listed 60 Acid Resistance, 4 Spirit Stone Slots, or Nonexistent enemy awareness values.
Floral Wraps are another lower-awareness acid option, but do not build around the previously listed 50 Acid Resistance and 6 Spirit Stone Slots. Mirror Guard pushes higher on protection with 80 Acid Resistance, though its High enemy awareness keeps it from being a quiet pick.
Key Later on, God Tree Guard can cover acid with stronger defense, but Amber Breastplate remains the sharper acid-specific armor because it reaches 90 Acid Resistance.
