Asus ZenFone 2 Laser receives Google Assistant update and a few other app updates

Following the Asus ZenFone 2 Laser February security update, Asus has released a new update for the device. Arriving as software version 21.40.1220.2044, the new update is being rolled out over the air.

The Marshmallow based update tags along with it updated GMS APK hinting at the release of Google Assistant for the Asus ZenFone 2 Laser device. In addition to the Google Assistant update, ZenFone 2 Laser also gets several other updated apps.

The changelog for the current update is provided below:

  • Update GMS APK
  • Update AsusLauncher
  • Update several APPs
  • Add DTAC APK: 4DBOOKFREE, Capture, DTAC and dtacMusicInfinite.

If the OTA update hasn’t shown up on your Asus phone yet, you can check for it manually. Go to Settings » About devices » System Update. Also ensure that the update is downloaded via a Wi-Fi connection and the battery is over 50 percent charged.

Google recently said that it will start pushing out its AI Assistant to all Android devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above versions of Android. Making this practically possible, the company has released the Google Assistant to non-Pixel devices in the US and Canada.
