Shiny Cell is strong because Cell’s kit copies a huge chunk of a top unit’s base damage, buffs that same unit, stacks extra buffs through duplicate placements, slows and stuns enemies with Bio Gel, and transforms into stronger forms, while the Shiny part itself is cosmetic.
The power comes from Cell/Bio Insect, not from the Shiny color alone. Build him around Forsaken, Mechanical Wings, magic-boosting support gear, and a high single-damage partner so his copied damage and strongest-unit buff have something worth scaling.

Cell is the broken part, not the Shiny label

The reason this unit jumps out is Genetic Code: in imperfect form, Cell copies 50% base damage from the strongest unit in his range and increases that same unit’s damage by 10%. He is not just another damage dealer; he becomes a multiplier for your best single-target unit while also gaining damage from that unit.
KEY!
The Shiny version looks different, but Shiny units are cosmetic only, with no damage, SPA, range, passive, or ability changes. So the build value is in Cell’s passives, Forsaken, Mechanical Wings, and the surrounding placement setup.
How to build Shiny Cell in Anime Expeditions
This route takes Cell from banner pull to the Forsaken, Mechanical Wings, and magic-gear setup used for the strongest-unit buff strategy.
STEP 1/19

Use luck potions before summoning while Cell is on the main banner.
STEP 2/19
Pull Shiny Cell

Keep the Shiny copy once it appears, then lock it if you want to compare it against a normal copy later.
STEP 3/19
Ascend Cell

Push Cell through ascension before committing to the buff setup.
STEP 4/19
Check the missing evolution materials

Review the missing materials, including Bio Insect Core and red sprites.
STEP 5/19
Craft the red sprites

Craft the missing red sprites before finishing the upgrade path.
STEP 6/19
Open Cell’s unit quests

Use Cell’s unit quests to get the Bio Insect Core.
STEP 7/19
Roll for Forsaken

Target Forsaken and avoid building around Unbound for this setup.
STEP 8/19
Open the equipment route

Go into story or expedition-related menus once Cell still needs his equipment.
STEP 9/19
Check the Mechanical Wings craft

Look for Mechanical Wings under forged equipment before farming the trial route.
STEP 10/19
Go to the East Town map

Enter the map used to reach the Bio Insect Trial.
STEP 11/19
Use the basketball court NPC

Talk to the basketball court NPC, or use the quest map marker from the bottom quest menu.
STEP 12/19
Clear equipment space

Sell spare equipment first if your unit equipment storage is capped.
STEP 13/19
Enter Bio Insect Trial

Select the unit trial stage and enter it to farm the equipment.
STEP 14/19
Get Mechanical Wings
Finish the trial route until Mechanical Wings is obtained.
STEP 15/19
Start rerolling Cell’s equipment

Open Cell’s equipment and begin rolling the Mechanical Wings stats.
STEP 16/19
Filter for Mythic equipment

Use the Mythic filter while holding the reroll button for faster equipment rolling.
STEP 17/19
Keep usable range first

Keep a 94 range roll to save rerolls.
STEP 18/19
Improve damage later

Use a 78 damage roll as a temporary keep, then improve it once you have more rerolls.
STEP 19/19
Add magic support gear

Because Cell is a magical unit, equip a magic-boosting item such as Big Magic Book.

Forsaken is the trait choice for Cell
Forsaken is the target trait for this build because it supports the intended Cell setup better than Unbound. Skip the Unbound route for Cell and chase Forsaken instead.
The important part is matching the trait to Cell’s role. He wants to sit near your hardest-hitting unit, copy base damage, and strengthen that same unit, so the build is shaped around enabling that interaction instead of forcing him into a generic damage-trait mold.
Mechanical Wings come from Bio Insect Trial

Mechanical Wings are Cell’s equipment target, and the route goes through Bio Insect Trial. From East Town, use the basketball court NPC, or open the quest menu at the bottom and use the map marker to find the same trial route.
If your unit equipment inventory is capped, sell spare equipment before entering. After clearing the trial and getting Mechanical Wings, reroll the Mythic equipment stats; 94 range and 78 damage are usable starter rolls, but damage is the first stat to improve once you have more rerolls.
Pair Cell with your highest single-damage unit
| Piece | Use |
|---|---|
| Cell/Bio Insect | Copies 50% base damage from the strongest unit in range and buffs that unit. |
| Strongest nearby unit | Use a top single-damage unit such as Goather/Gowther as the damage anchor. |
| Duplicate Cell placements | Add nearby copies to push extra strongest-unit damage buffs. |
| Forsaken | Chosen trait for the intended Cell scaling setup. |
| Mechanical Wings | Cell’s equipment target from Bio Insect Trial. |
| Magic-book-style support gear | Boosts Cell as a magical unit, with Big Magic Book used as the example item. |
Cell wants the strongest single-damage unit in his range because his copied damage and buff both scale off that target. In this setup, Goather/Gowther is the anchor: place Goather/Gowther first, max him, then place Cell copies nearby so Cell reads him as the strongest unit in range.
Duplicate Cell placements also matter. The duplicate interaction applies 10% per duplicate, and one run showed Goather/Gowther reaching 1.4x damage with 88,000 damage, while the nearby Cell units had smaller individual damage values. Genetic Code stacking can behave unevenly when pushing the same buff multiple times onto one unit, so use the placement idea and read the final multiplier in your own run.
Put Cell in range of your hardest single-hit unit before judging his damage; without that anchor, his 50% base-damage copy loses the whole reason the build works.
Cell’s passives and form changes
| Passive | Effect |
|---|---|
| Genetic Code | In imperfect form, copies 50% base damage of the strongest unit in range and increases that unit’s damage by 10%. |
| Bio Gel | Slows enemies by 60% for 5 seconds. |
| Bio Gel expiry | Stuns enemies for 3 seconds when the effect expires. |
| Bio Reset | On takedown of an enemy inflicted with Bio Gel, increases range by 0.2% per stack up to 30%, and increases AoE size up to 20%. |
| Mecha 17 trigger | After 50 takedowns in imperfect form, spawns Mecha 17 with 10,000 health; defeating it changes Cell from imperfect to semi-perfect form. |
| Mecha 18 trigger | After another 50 takedowns, spawns Mecha 18 with 20,000 health; defeating it changes Cell into perfect form. |
Cell’s kit is loaded because it combines scaling, crowd control, and form progression in one unit. Bio Gel gives him lane control, while Bio Reset grows his range and AoE size through takedowns on affected enemies.
The transformation chain starts in imperfect form. After enough takedowns, Cell spawns Mecha 17 as an enemy boss, then transforms into semi-perfect form after Mecha 17 is defeated. Another takedown cycle spawns Mecha 18, and defeating that boss moves him into perfect form.
Cell is cheap for the value
The other reason Cell feels so wild is the cost curve. He takes only 1,350 to fully max out, which is extremely low for a unit that can copy damage, buff a premium anchor unit, slow, stun, and grow through transformations.
That makes him feel almost free once the banner pull, trait, core, and equipment are handled. For the value, he plays more like a scaling support-damage hybrid than a normal budget placement.
Current caveats for Shiny Cell builds

Bio Reset was broken during the showcase run, so the full final behavior will feel different once it is fixed. Genetic Code stacking also behaves unevenly in some setups, especially when trying to apply the same buff multiple times to one unit.
The naming is simple once you separate it: players call the unit Cell, while the build language also uses Bio Insect. The Shiny part is the cosmetic color variant. Lock the Shiny after summoning, then compare normal and Shiny panels side by side for damage, SPA, range, passives, and abilities if you want to see the matching stat panels yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shiny Cell do more damage than normal Cell?
No. The Shiny label by itself is cosmetic. The meaningful damage comes from Cell’s copied base damage, trait, equipment, magic support item, and strongest-unit pairing.
Is Cell better with Forsaken or Unbound?
Use Forsaken for this build. Unbound performs poorly for the intended Cell setup, while Forsaken is the trait that makes the buff-and-copy plan work.
Why is Goather/Gowther important for Cell?
Cell copies from the strongest unit in range, so a huge single-damage unit gives him a much better number to copy. Goather/Gowther fills that role in this setup, but the same logic applies to whichever unit is your strongest nearby anchor.
