Android 8.0 Oreo now available for LG V20

LG has been busy with rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo updates to its 2017 smartphone lineup of LG V30 and LG G6. Now that it’s done with the two, attention was always going to turn to the 2016 LG V20 and its counterpart, the LG G5. Of course, given the status of the LG V20, it was always going to get the update ahead of the LG G5.

It appears that LG has begun rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to the LG V20. A number of redittors have shared multiple screenshots of the V20 Oreo update, confirming that this is happening on the Korean variants with model numbers F800S and F800L. The update has software version 20c and weighs over 1.6GB, which is typical of any major OS upgrade.

LG usually begins its OS upgrades in Korea before going global a few days or weeks later. If anything, we should start seeing a wider release towards the end of the month and well into August.

Interestingly, the LG V20 was the first smartphone to come preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat, but it now sits among the last flagship phones to get the update. On the brighter side, the fact that this is just the phone’s first major OS upgrade puts it in a solid position to receive Android P, even if it may take ages.
